Abstract

The invention relates to a process for producing a steel band of less than 10 mm thickness by casting of a steel string in a cooled through-mould. The steel string, which is not yet fully solidified, is compressed after leaving the mould until welding of the inner wall of the already solidified string shell, the string shell being reduced in thickness by a degree of preforming of > 40%. <IMAGE>
