Abstract

Menetelmässä hiilipitoinen polttoaine hiillytetään korkeassa lämpötilassa hiileksi ja hiili aktivoidaan fyysisesti vesihöyryn ja/tai hiilidioksidin avulla aktiivihiileksi. Aktiivihiili valmistetaan tuotekaasun valmistamiseen tarkoitetulla myötävirtakaasuttimella, jossa on tulipesä (32). Polttoaine hiillytetään hiileksi ja hiili aktivoidaan aktiivihiileksi myötävirtakaasuttimen tulipesässä. Ainakin osa hiilen aktivoinnissa käytettävästä vesihöyrystä muodostetaan kaasuttamalla kosteaa polttoainetta, jolloin syntyy aktivoinnissa hapettavana kaasuna toimivaa vesihöyryä. Polttoaineena voidaan käyttää puuhaketta, jonka kosteus on 30–40 painoprosenttia. Samoin ainakin osa hiilen aktivoinnissa käytettävästä hiilidioksidista muodostetaan polttoaineen kaasutusprosessissa. Kaasutuksessa syntyvä tuotekaasu sisältää hiilidioksidia, joka toimii aktivointiprosessissa hapettavana kaasuna joko yksinään tai yhdessä vesihöyryn kanssa. Aktiivihiiltä voidaan valmistaa tuotekaasun valmistuksen sivutuotteena. Kiinteää polttoainetta kaasutettaessa sivutuotteena syntyy lentotuhkaa, joka on ainakin osittain aktiivihiiltä.In the method, a carbonaceous fuel is carbonized at high temperature into carbon and the carbon is physically activated into activated carbon with the help of steam and/or carbon dioxide. Activated carbon is produced in a co-current gasifier intended for the production of product gas, which has a furnace (32). The fuel is carbonized into carbon and the carbon is activated into activated carbon in the furnace of the co-current gasifier. At least part of the steam used in the activation of the carbon is formed by gasifying moist fuel, thereby producing steam that acts as an oxidizing gas in the activation. Wood chips with a moisture content of 30–40% by weight can be used as the fuel. Similarly, at least part of the carbon dioxide used in the activation of the carbon is formed in the gasification process of the fuel. The product gas produced in the gasification contains carbon dioxide, which acts as an oxidizing gas in the activation process either alone or together with steam. Activated carbon can be produced as a by-product of the production of product gas. When gasifying solid fuel, fly ash is produced as a byproduct, which is at least partly activated carbon.
