Abstract

The slide gate mechanism has a counter plate that can be fixedly adapted to the discharge opening of the furnace or vessel and an adjustment plate that is adapted to slide relative to the counter plate for regulating the flow into the discharge channel. The adjustment plate has flow channels that can be dissolved between the flow channel of the counter plate and the discharge channel to regulate the flow of metal. The adjustment plate also has gas supply channels that comprise a porous material and through which gas is fed into the flow channels of the slide gate mechanism. The invention makes it possible to cast and pour relatively low-melting metals and their alloys without the metal solidifying in the discharge opening even during longer interruptions in casting. The invention allows the jet of metal to be cast or poured to be precisely directed to the desired location without splashing.&sr;(Image)
