Abstract
Recombinant expression vector capable of effecting the expression of a DNA sequency encoding 2,5-diketogluconic acid (2,5-DKG) reductase in host cells is new. Recombinant expression vehicle in which a DNA sequence encoding 2,5-DKG reductase is operably linked to a promoter capable of effecting the expression of the sequence is new. Pure 2,5-DKG reductase is new. Recombinant cell capable of effecting conversion of an ordinary metabolite, esp. glucose, into 2-keto-L-gulonic acid (2-KLG) is new. Recombinant micro-organism, pref. of the genus Erwinia, transformed with an expression vector encoding an enzyme(s) for conversion of an ordinary metabolite into 2-KLG, esp. 2,5-DKG reductase. Conversion of 2,5-DKG into 2-KLG comprises contact of a mixt. comprising 2,5-DKG with 2,5-DKG reductase opt. in immobilised form.
