Abstract
The invention relates to a process for fuel replacement in a light water-moderated boiling-water reactor, for which uranium dioxide is used as the fuel and which contains a core with a multiplicity of fuel rod clusters (10) each of which is composed of a relatively large number of fuel rods (11). When the reactor is put into operation, it is provided with a water/fuel ratio by volume of at most 1.85. After an operating period of the reactor, in which the average fissile material content in the form of U 235, Pu 239 and Pu 241 in the fuel has fallen to at most 1.80%, a number of fuel rods with a low fissile material content in at least one fuel rod cluster is replaced by fuel rods having a higher fissile material content, and a number of fuel rods in the same fuel cluster is replaced by water-filled tubes or removed without replacement, creating free positions.
