Abstract

Horizontal plate filter comprises 2 plates between which are sandwiched 2 filter cloths enclosing a bed of material to be filtered. Pressure between the plates is produced by inflating a rubber capsule located between the upper plate and the upper fixed part of the filter structure. As the capsule expands it forces the frame holding the upper plate downwards on to the upper filter cloth. The frame edges clamp the filter cloths together and prevent leakage. The device operates stepwise but can employ endless cloths, enabling continuous operation to be obtd. by shifting the cloths forward one pitch after each operation. Used for filtration in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
