Abstract

The head spaces of containers 26 are purged and the containers pressurized by injecting predetermined amounts of liquified gas, e.g. nitrogen or a noble gas, into the containers. Suitable apparatus includes a tank 10 containing the liquified gas, a pressure regulator 20, means 28 for detecting the containers, and an injector 24 responsive to the detector 28 to supply liquified gas to the containers. The injector 24 preferably has a combination float and pressure regulating means which employs the vapor pressure of evaporating liquified gas to its gaseous state from its liquid state to control liquified gas level and gas pressure within the device.
