Abstract
Absorbent material consists of a layer of wood pulp fibres (I), which have not been delignified, mixed with 1wt.% or more (1-20, esp. 1-5%) polymer (II) contg. OH gps. (II) is starch, modified starch, a starch deriv., or PVA or guar flour and is mixed uniformly with (I). (I) consists of softwood fibres, pref. from spruce, balsam fir, western hemlock fir, Douglas fir, white fir, southern pine, Loblolly pine (pinus taeda) and/or Caribbean pine, opt. mixed with max. 50wt.% chemical pulp and/or cotton linters. The material can have compressed regions. It is placed between a moisture impermeable backing and moisture permeable cover to form a disposable diaper. The material has great liq. transport and absorbing power and is useful for tampons, sanitary towels, diapers, liners, etc.
