Abstract
Un método para producir hierro bruto a partir de materiales que contienen sulfuro de hierro, caracterizado porque el material que contiene sulfuro de hierro se carga en un espacio de horno, y allí, junto con un material que contiene sílice y oxígeno, se funde para formar una masa fundida de silicato de hierro durante la combustión del azufre presente unido como sulfuro, de manera que dicha masa fundida contiene aproximadamente 70-90% en peso de hierro calculado como óxido de hierro (II), tras lo cual se añade un agente reductor a dicha masa fundida de silicato de hierro, de manera tal que el contenido de hierro, calculado como óxido de hierro (II), caiga a aproximadamente 60% en peso o menos, en presencia de cal y/u otros agentes fundentes, y porque se separa el hierro bruto formado, tras lo cual el contenido de hierro en la masa fundida de silicato de hierro se vuelve a aumentar añadiendo material que contiene sulfuro de hierro y oxígeno para renovar la fusión, y agente reductor para una nueva reducción.
