Abstract

A continuous paper web (2) moves forward passing around a rotary support roll (1). A wetting roll (4) deposits a layer (4a) of aqueous coating composition (5). The excess of the layer is scraped off successively by two adjustable blades whose edges meet the layer on two straight lines (P and Q). The process makes it possible to obtain coatings of uniform thickness, free from scratches, corresponding to quantities of dry material which are generally smaller than 15 g/m<2> and capable of going down to 5 g/m<2>, without decreasing the viscosity of the coating baths.
