Abstract

A solar heat exchanger consists of a panel, one surface of which receives solar energy. That surface has parallel V shaped grooves which extend over the length of the panel. Three sheets of plastic are laid over one another on the surface and form outer, intermediate and inner spaces, extending over the length of the grooves, and bounded by the walls of the grooves and the sections of the sheets extending over them. The outer and intermediate spaces contain air. The inner spaces, of triangular section, constitute channels through which water circulates, and which connect with gutters at the ends of the panel. Pipes connected to the gutters feed water and take it away. The water receives radiations after they have passed through the sections of sheets and the outer and intermediate spaces. The collector is simple to construct and can be readily dispatched, stored and installed at low cost, whereas the costs of existing collectors prohibit their wide use. It collects incident light of all wavelengths and emits only a small quantity of radiation. The temp. can be controlled preventing damage if fluid circulation is interrupted. Conversion of incident energy is considerably greater than with existing panels.
