Abstract
Process for preparing granules containing calcium carbonate, wherein the calcium carbonate has a high effective surface area and a low degree of agglomeration, characterized in that it comprises the steps of: (a) mixing a member selected from the group consisting of carbonates, bicarbonates and sesquicarbonates of alkali metal, water soluble, and mixtures thereof, water, and submicrometric particles of calcium carbonate, wherein the weight ratio of the alkali metal salt to the calcium carbonate is from about 1x2 to about 75x1, to form an aqueous slurry; and (b) sprinkling the slurry from step (a) to form the granules containing calcium carbonate.
