Abstract

A length of rubber-like material (2) is passed over and in contact with the surface (4) of a fluid heat source (5) to raise the temperature thereof sufficiently at least partially to cure the rubberlike material in the region of the material in contact with the heat source while the rubberlike material of a surface, e.g. (3), of the rubberlike material not in contact with the fluid heat source remains substantially uncured. The invention is particularly applicable to the curing of chafer-strips for automobile tyres.
