Abstract

An improvement in a knitting machine to produce a jersey type fabric substantially devoid of torsion, comprising: (a) at least one entry of knitting yarn intended to have twisted yarn applied to it; (b) a knitting head fitted with a plurality of knitting needles operatively engaged thereon; (c) drive means operatively fixed to provide relative rotation between said inlet and said knitting heads to produce a weaving action to point through said needles to transform the yarn into a continuous length of fabric of the type of jersey; (d) a tapping means for winding said fabric on a roller; and (e) means for rotating said tapping means about a geometric axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the fabric, in a direction corresponding to the direction of relative rotation between said inlet and said head, and at a speed determined by the magnitude and direction of twisting of the yarn, the woven fabric being thus wound on said tapping means with the columns thereof slightly biased so that the fabric substantially lacks torque.
