Abstract

1. Apparatus for bottom-tapping a metal melt (2) from a melting furnace (1) with a tapping orifice (5) in its floor, in which a) a closure plate (6) is arranged below the tapping orifice (5) and is capable of being pivoted or slid in a plane parallel to the floor of the furnace (1) between a closed position and an open position of the tapping orifice (5), and b) a filling (8) of refractory granular material is provided in the tapping orifice (5) which is closed off by the closure plate (6), characterized in that c) the closure plate (6) is arranged at a spacing of 2 to 15 mm from the adjacent mouth of the tapping orifice (5) and has a width which corresponds to at least double the clearance diameter of the tapping orifice (5), and d) the gap (7) so formed between the closure plate (6) and the adjacent mouth of the tapping orifice (5) is likewise filled with refractory granular material.
