Abstract

A reciprocating pump 10 is mounted in a container cap 24, the pump plunger 16 extending out of the pump body 12. The plunger is finger-operated and includes a discharge orifice 46 behind which lies a swirl chamber to atomize the spray. The orifice location and the pump stroke are such that the emerging spray does not impinge on a saddle 64 on the plunger 16 or on a collar 22. The collar 22 has an internal screw-thread 54 which engages a thread 48 on the plunger head 30. A flange 68 abuts an edge 52 to form an air-tight seal for the discharge orifice 46. A cap may be fitted over the head 30 when screwed down.
