Abstract

An evacuated and laminar electroluminescent lamp device, comprising an outer envelope of plastic sheets of which at least the front sheet has a relatively large impermeability to water vapors and is light transmitting, said outer plastic sheets enclosing a electrically active assembly including, from the front to the front, a conductive metallic layer coated with an electroluminescent phosphor, a sheet of light-transmitting conductive material on top of said phosphor layer and a sheet of a hydrophilic plastic material on top of said transmitting conductive sheet of light and in contact with said highly impermeable plastic front sheet, whereby the combination of said very impermeable plastic front sheet backed by said sheet of hydrophilic material serves to substantially retard the initiation of water impoverishment in said lamp.
