EL METODO CONSISTE EN CREAR UN LECHO FLUIDIFICADO (10) DE PARTICULAS SOLIDAS, MANTENER UNA ZONA DEL LECHO A UNA TEMPERATURA DENTRO DEL ALCANCE DEL PUNTO DE FUSION DEL METAL A 1000 (GRADOS) C, INTRODUCIR EL MATERIAL DE DESECHO EN LA ZONA FLUIDIFICADA PARA PROVOCAR EL DECAPADO DEL METAL EN UN TIEMPO DE 1 A 40 SEGUNDOS, FUNDIR AL MENOS PARCIALMENTE EL METAL Y RETIRAR EL MATERIAL DE METAL DEL LECHO FLUIDIFICADO. DE ESTE MODO, EL DECAPADO Y LA FUSION AL MENOS PARCIAL SE PRODUCEN ESENCIALMENTE AL MISMO TIEMPO PARA OBTENER UN MAYOR RENDIMIENTO. LOS METALES CON DIFERENTES PUNTOS DE FUSION TAMBIEN SE PUEDEN SEPARAR UNOS DE OTROS FORMANDO UNA SERIE DE ZONAS DE TEMPERATURA EN EL LECHO FLUIDIFICADO (O EN UNA SERIE DE LECHOS FLUIDIFICADOS) DE TEMPERATURA PROGRESIVAMENTE EN AUMENTO. SI SE INTRODUCE UNA CANTIDADLIMITADA DE OXIGENO EN EL LECHO, SE PRODUCE UN GAS COMBUSTIBLE QUE SE PUEDE QUEMAR PARA EXTRAER SU ENERGIA O SE PUEDE ALMACENAR PARA UTILIZARLO POSTERIORMENTE.
