Abstract

Capillary cryogenic entrapment device for preconcentration and separation of volatile analytes. A device has been developed that allows the entrapment of volatile species and their sequential separation. The invention consists in the use of a single capillary that simultaneously allows cryogenic entrapment at controlled temperature and sequential elution of the species. Under temperature control during desorption, the analytes are separated according to their boiling points and/or through a chromatographic process. The cooling of the central module that contains the capillary is carried out through a pre-cooled air flow and heating with a flow of air heated by resistances. The process is automated and the selection of the parameters that affect the separation of the analyte is carried out with the same control unit. The system is easily adaptable to a wide variety of instrumental equipment, being able to be coupled to most existing detectors, such as AAS, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, AFS or MIP. Its combination with standard instrumentation constitutes a very useful tool for solving various metal speciation problems raised in the field of Analytical Chemistry.
