Abstract
Un método de hacer hierro para preparar un hierro fundido conteniendo de 1, 5 a 4, 5% de carbono, donde el método incluye: (a) proporcionar óxido de hierro y un agente reductor carbonoso; (b) preparar un producto conformado a partir del agente reductor carbonoso y el óxido de hierro; (c) preparar hierro reducido sólido a partir del producto conformado, donde el hierro reducido sólido tiene metalización de al menos 60%, una gravedad específica de al menos 1, 7, y un contenido de carbono de al menos 50% de la cantidad teórica requerida para reducir el óxido de hierro restante en el hierro reducido sólido; y (d) antes de que se produzca enfriamiento sustancial, calentar el hierro reducido sólido después de que el hierro reducido sólido se sumerge en una espuma de escoria fundida en un horno de fusión por calentamiento por arco, preparando por ello el hierro fundido conteniendo de 1, 5 a 4, 5% de carbono, donde la basicidad de la espuma de escoria fundida es de 1, 0 a 1, 8.
