LA BAUXITA, PARTICULARMENTE BAUXITA DE ALTO CONTENIDO DE ALUMINA, Y LA BRUCITA SE UTILIZAN COMO PIRORRETARDANTES EN FORMULACIONES DE POLIMEROS ORGANICOS NO ACUOSOS PARTICULARMENTE PARA EL AISLAMIENTO, REVESTIMIENTO O ENCAPSULACION DE COMPONENTES ELECTRICOS Y TAMBIEN EN EL BITUMEN. LAS FORMULACIONES SON ADECUADAS PARA SU CONFORMACION, POR EJEMPLO, MEDIANTE MOLDEADO O POLIMERIZACION A TEMPERATURAS DE ENTRE 150° Y 200° C. LAS FORMULACIONES PRESENTAN RESISTENCIA AL AGUA Y OTRAS PROPIEDADES QUE INCLUYEN EL COSTE DE LA BAUXITA Y DE LA BRUCITA, QUE ES VENTAJOSO EN COMPARACION CON EL TRIHIDRATO DE ALUMINIO UTILIZADO CONVENCIONALMENTE COMO PIRORRETARDANTE.
