Abstract
Process for the biological degradation of fats and fatty waste, characterised in that the fats are placed in a degradation tank in the presence of activated sludge and of water, air is injected so as to satisfy the higher of the following two values: addition of oxygen corresponding to the COD and mixing corresponding to a minimum velocity gradient of 100 s<-1> and phosphorus and nitrogen are added to maintain the nitrogen/phosphorus ratio at at least 5/1 per 100 parts of organic carbon while maintaining the pH between 6.5 and 8.5, and a product with reduced fat content is removed from the tank. Particular application to the treatment of fats and fatty waste originating from sewage.
