EL SISTEMA COMPRENDE UN REACTIVO LITICO CONSTITUIDO POR UN COMPUESTO SOLUBLE EN AGUA QUE SE DISOCIA, AL MENOS, PARCIALMENTE EN SOLUCION ACUOSA LIBERANDO UN PROTON Y UN CONTRAION, ACIDIFICANDO EL PH DE LA MUESTRA HASTA APROXIMADAMENTE 2,6 A 4. EL COMPUESTO PUEDE SER UN ACIDO MONO O DICARBOXILICO, SULFONICO O UN DERIVADO DE FENOL CON UN GRUPO ACEPTOR DE ELECTRONES. LA CONCENTRACION DEL REACTIVO EN EL SISTEMA OSCILA ENTRE 0,01 Y 1% EN VOLUMEN PARA MANTENER LA OSMOLALIDAD DE LA MUESTRA POR DEBAJO DE 100 MOS.
