EL FENOL SE PREPARA A PARTIR DE FENOL CRUDO, SIENDO ESTE EL PRODUCTO DE DESCOMPOSICION DE HIDROPEROXIDO DE CUMENO Y HABIENDO SIDO PREVIAMENTE DESTILADO PARA ELIMINAR LAS GRANDES PROPORCIONES DE ACETONA, CUMENO Y ALFAMETILESTIRENO. EL FENOL CRUDO SE SOMETE A UNA DESTILACION FRACCIONARIA, ELIMINANDOSE LOS RESIDUOS PESADOS POR LA PARTE INFERIOR DE LA CORRESPONDIENTE COLUMNA Y SACANDOSE EL FENOL PURIFICADO POR UN PUNTO INTERMEDIO DE ESTA. POR LA PARTE SUPERIOR DE LA COLUMNA SE AÑADE AGUA Y SE ELIMINA UNA MEZCLA DE AGUA-FENOL LIQUIDO QUE CONTIENE IMPUREZAS. SE HACE REFLUIR A LA COLUMNA, POR UNA PARTE ALTA DE LA MISMA, UNA PORCION DE DICHA MEZCLA.LA INVENCION PERMITE MEJORAR EL VALOR COMERCIAL DEL FENOL Y DISMINUIR EL COSTE DE SU PURIFICACION.PROCEDURE OF PREPARING PHENOL WHICH HAS IMPROVED CLARITY WHEN DISPERSED IN WATER. PHENOL IS PREPARED FROM CRUDE PHENOL, THIS BEING THE DECOMPOSITION PRODUCT OF CUMENUM HYDROPEROXIDE AND HAVING BEEN PREVIOUSLY DISTILLED TO ELIMINATE THE LARGE PROPORTIONS OF ACETONE, CUMENE AND ALPHAMETHYLSTYRENE. THE CRUDE PHENOL IS SUBMITTED TO A FRACTIONAL DISTILLATION, REMOVING THE HEAVY RESIDUES FROM THE BOTTOM PART OF THE CORRESPONDING COLUMN AND REMOVING THE PURIFIED PHENOL AT AN INTERMEDIATE POINT OF THIS. WATER IS ADDED THROUGH THE TOP OF THE COLUMN AND A LIQUID WATER-PHENOL MIXTURE CONTAINING IMPURITIES IS REMOVED. A PORTION OF SAID MIXTURE IS REFLUISHED TO THE COLUMN, FOR A HIGH PART OF IT, THE INVENTION ALLOWS TO IMPROVE THE COMMERCIAL VALUE OF PHENOL AND REDUCE THE COST OF ITS PURIFICATION.
