Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a laundry treatment appliance with a steaming function and a method for steaming laundry in a laundry treatment appliance.
  • Some laundry treatment appliances particularly washing machines, already have a steaming function.
  • a heating element converts water in a tub into hot steam, which is then directed into a drum containing the laundry.
  • a steaming function can be used either in combination with a wash program or separately.
  • the steaming function can minimize wrinkles in laundry, remove odors and/or allergens, and/or replace additional treatment agents such as fabric softener or other chemical cleaning agents.
  • Using the steaming function alone can also be used to freshen laundry, e.g., remove wrinkles and odors from clothes that have been worn once.
  • the KR 100605732 B1 This image shows a drain hose for a washing machine, located in a door seal.
  • the drain hose is designed so that any remaining water can be drained away immediately after the wash cycle.
  • the tub can be suspended in a housing of the laundry treatment appliance in a vibration-damped manner.
  • the tub can be designed to be watertight, with the exception of at least one water supply (e.g., the water inlet) and one water outlet.
  • the tub can have the water inlet provided in the region of the opening and a main water inlet arranged to direct water directly onto the drum.
  • the tub can be cylindrical and have an opening at one axial end thereof that can be closed with the door.
  • the tub can accommodate the drum within it.
  • a gap can be formed between the tub and the drum, the size of which can be selected such that an imbalance of the drum during operation of the laundry treatment appliance does not lead to contact between the drum and the tub. In other words, when there is water in the tub, the drum can be above the water level so that no water penetrates into the drum.
  • the drum is preferably designed to accommodate laundry therein.
  • the drum may have a cylindrical shape having a can be opened.
  • the drum can have a plurality of through-holes in its peripheral surface or shell surface.
  • the drum can be rotatably held in the tub.
  • the drum is designed so that, when the door is open, laundry can be put into the drum through the opening of the tub.
  • the opening of the drum can substantially correspond to the opening of the tub and face towards it.
  • Water can be supplied to the drum by directing the water directly through the main water inlet around the circumference of the drum and entering the drum through the through-holes.
  • water can be supplied to the drum by letting water into the tub until the drum is partially submerged in the water.
  • the prescribed water supply methods can also be combined.
  • the sealing sleeve is arranged concentrically to the sight glass, whereby it can sag downwards when the tub is full, in particular when filled with water, without negatively affecting its sealing effect.
  • the sealing sleeve can be a bellows, in particular a rubber bellows.
  • the sealing sleeve can serve as a sealing connection between a vibrating area (suds container and drum) and a relatively stationary housing and door of the laundry treatment appliance.
  • the sealing sleeve can serve as a sealing lip for sealing the opening with the door and/or the sight glass.
  • the sealing sleeve can preferably have folds. The openings or at least a gap can be provided between the folds to drain the water.
  • the laundry treatment appliance may further comprise a second valve and a third valve, wherein the second valve may be configured to supply water for a main wash cycle to the tub, wherein the third valve may be configured to supply water for a pre-wash cycle to the tub via the water supply line.
  • a water merging device for example a Y-piece
  • a water merging device can be arranged downstream of the first valve and the third valve, which is designed to combine water from the first valve and water from the third valve in a common line.
  • the second valve can be designed to supply water to the main water inlet.
  • the three valves can be part of a valve arrangement that can be controlled by the control unit.
  • the valve arrangement can comprise a Y-piece, which can be arranged downstream of the first and third valves and which can be designed to combine water coming from the first valve and water coming from the third valve into a common line.
  • the Y-piece can be an integral part of the valve arrangement or the Y-piece can be attached to the valve arrangement.
  • the control unit can preferably be configured to supply 0.5 l to 5 l, preferably 1 l to 2 l, and particularly preferably 1.3 l to 1.7 l, of water to the heater pocket for the steaming function.
  • a suitable total water supply can ensure, on the one hand, that the water level in the layer container is not too high, i.e., that the water does not reach the drum and the laundry contained therein, and, on the other hand, ensures that the heater is immersed in the water to ensure evaporation of the water without the heater overheating.
  • the use of a laundry treatment appliance is advantageous in which a water supply line used for cuff rinsing is supplied with water at a low volume flow in order to supply water to the heating element pocket while bypassing the drum.
  • the low volume flow is in the range of 0.1 l/min to 2.0 l/min, preferably 0.2 l/min to 1.0 l/min, and particularly preferably 0.3 l/min to 0.7 l/min.
  • Water can be fed to the water supply line 8 via a second water outlet 19, which is connected to the pre-wash chamber 17 of the treatment agent container 15.
  • the water supply line 8 is designed to direct the water to a sight glass 7 in the door 6.
  • the sight glass 7 is designed such that the water can be directed, bypassing the drum 5, to a heater pocket 3 in which a heater 4 is arranged. There, the water can be heated by the heater 4, creating steam.
  • the heater pocket 3 is in fluid communication with the tub 2, via which the steam can enter the drum 5.
  • the flow or volume flow of water that is directed through the water supply line 8 is controlled by a control unit 9 (not shown). By setting a sufficiently low volume flow, it is possible to prevent the water that is directed via the sight glass 7 from entering the drum 5 and possibly unintentionally moistening the laundry.
  • Both the first valve 12 and the third valve 14 feed the water into the pre-wash chamber 17 of the treatment agent container 15, for which purpose the outlets of these two valves 12, 14 are brought together by means of a Y-piece 25.
  • the valves can be designed such that the first valve 12 allows only a low water flow rate for a steaming program, while the third valve 14 allows a larger water flow rate for a pre-wash program. In both cases, the water is conducted via the existing path via the pre-wash chamber 17.
  • the treatment agent container 15 can preferably be designed such that it directs water from the pre-wash chamber 17 exclusively into the water supply line 8, which leads to the sight glass 7, in particular if the volume flow rate supplied to the pre-wash chamber 17 is sufficiently low that the water does not reach the main water inlet 30 of the main wash program to the drum 5.
  • Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of the sight glass 7 of the door 6, wherein the sight glass 7 is conical in this embodiment.
  • the cone is directed towards the drum 5.
  • water supply line 8 (not shown in Fig. 3 ), which is located above the sight glass 7, water is directed onto a casing surface 21 of the conical sight glass 7 as part of the vaporization function.
  • the water is then passed through the sight glass 7 to a sealing sleeve 10 as indicated by arrows, for example in the form of a trickle along the casing surface 21.
  • the casing surface has a contour which is designed in such a way that it can guide the water downwards in the direction of a sealing sleeve 10.
  • the water runs along the sight glass 7 without entering the drum 5.
  • Openings 11 are arranged in the lower area near or on the sealing sleeve 10.
  • the sealing sleeve 10 and the openings 11 are designed and/or arranged in such a way that the water is drained into a sleeve gap 31 between the folds of the sealing sleeve 10 and from there via the openings 11. From there, the water reaches the heating element pocket 3. Steam generated from the water by means of the heating element 4 can also be guided upwards and into the drum 5 via the openings 11. In other words, the volume flow is set by the control unit 9 such that the water is guided exclusively via the sight glass 7 to the heating element pocket 3.
  • a sleeve flush water can be supplied to the heating element pocket 3 without the water entering the drum 5. Laundry in the drum 5 is therefore not directly moistened as part of the steaming program, and no water spots are created on the laundry.
  • Fig. 7 shows a final section 26 of the water supply line 8 according to an embodiment of the present invention. This is designed such that water which reaches the final section 26 through a water inlet 27 is guided through the water outlet 28 onto the sight glass 7 of the door 6. If the volume flow is sufficiently low, the water drips over the lip 29 in a defined manner onto the sight glass 7, in particular onto a casing region 21 of the sight glass 7.
  • the lip 29 can ensure that water discharged from the water supply line 8 impacts the casing region 21 of the sight glass 7 in a targeted manner (i.e. in a defined manner).
  • the lip 29 can in particular reduce the flow velocity of the escaping water. This prevents water from getting into the drum 5.
  • Fig. 8 shows a method 100 according to the invention for steaming laundry in the laundry treatment appliance 1 in the form of a flow chart.
  • a laundry treatment appliance 1 according to one of the previously described embodiments is provided.
  • the next step 102 comprises controlling a volume flow of water that is fed to the water supply line 8.
  • the water is supplied to the heating element pocket 3, bypassing the drum 5, by being guided through the water supply line 8 onto the sight glass 7 of the door and along the sight glass 7.
  • the water can preferably be guided over a jacket region 21 of a conical sight glass 7.
  • the water is heated by the heating element 4 placed in the heating element pocket, so that the generated steam flows into the drum 5.
