  • Sheets 16-21, 24 and 25 were coated with an oxidized starch and sheets 14, 15, 18 and 19 were saturated with glycerol. Sheet materials 20 and 21 were impregnated with propylene glycol.

  • Table 4 shows the draw resistance of a 108mm rod and the filtration efficiencies of a 18mm segment for nicotine, water and glycerol. Again, the web material numbers correspond to those in Table 1.
  • the segments made from sheet materials 1-25 are segments of the present invention having a Z parameter of about 1300 to about 2250.
  • the draw resistance of the 108 mm long rod is between 17.9 mmWG and 63.9 mmWG, allowing the design of segments that either direct the aerosol and only offer a low draw resistance or that filter the aerosol and also allow the draw resistance of the smoking article to increase.
  • a comparison of web materials 2 and 11, which are identical in composition, shows the influence of the density of the segment on the draw resistance.
  • a segment of sheet material 2 with a segment density of 73.3 kg/m 3 gives a draw resistance (108 mm) of 23.8 mmWG while a segment made of sheet material 11 with a density of 170.5 kg/m 3 gives a draw resistance (108mm) by 54.5mm WG.
  • the draw resistance is not determined solely by the density of the segment.
  • the web materials 6 and 7 have a similar basis weight, but the web material 6 contains 29.5% calcium carbonate and therefore has a significantly higher density.
  • the segments made from this have similar densities and the area of the web material per volume of the segment is also similar. Nevertheless, they differ significantly in the draw resistance, which is 63.9 mmWG for the bar (108 mm) made from web material 6 and only 30.5 mmWG for the bar (108 mm) made from web material 7. This shows that the density of the web material itself has an independent significance for the properties of the segment produced from it and is therefore also included as an essential property in the parameter Z.
  • the surface area of the web material per volume of the segment depends on the density of the web material and the density of the segment without the covering material and is therefore also an important property for the draw resistance and is therefore also included in the parameter Z.
  • the segments of the starch-coated sheet materials 16-21 all show a lower filtration efficiency for water than the segments from the comparable sheet materials 8, 9 and 11, while they hardly differ in the filtration efficiencies for nicotine and glycerol. This shows that an oxidized starch coating can be used to adjust the filtration efficiency for water.
  • a segment was made from sheet 7 with an unwrapped density of 90.4 kg/m 3 and an area of sheet material per volume of segment of 36.9 cm 2 /cm 3 .
  • the 108 mm long rod made from this sheet material only has a draw resistance of 12.3 mmWG, which is too low for use in smoking articles.
  • the hardness of the segment is not sufficient for further processing into a smoking article, despite the wrapping material at 78 g/m 2 . It should be noted that this segment satisfies all of the requirements of the invention, with the exception of those for the Z parameter.
  • a segment was prepared from sheet 12 with an unwrapped density of 233.9 kg/m 3 and an area of sheet material per volume of segment of 89.9 cm 2 /cm 3 .
  • this segment also meets all of the requirements according to the invention, with the exception of those for the Z parameter.
  • the two comparative examples not according to the invention thus show that the parameter Z is essential in order to obtain a segment with satisfactory properties.

Claims (15)

  1. Article à fumer, comprenant un matériau produisant un aérosol, qui, lors du fumage, n'est que chauffé, mais n'est pas brûlé, et un segment, qui comprend un matériau de feuille continue à base de fibres et un matériau de gainage, qui gaine le matériau de feuille continue à base de fibres, le matériau de feuille continue à base de fibres
    - comprenant au moins 40 % de fibres de cellulose et moins de 10 % de polymères non naturels, dans chaque cas par rapport à la masse du matériau de feuille continue,
    - ayant un grammage d'au moins 10 g/m2 et d'au plus 70 g/m2, et
    - une épaisseur d'au moins 25 µm et d'au plus 400 µm,
    le matériau de feuille continue mentionné présentant dans le segment une aire d'au moins 20 cm2 et d'au plus 90 cm2 par cm3 de volume du segment,
    le segment, sans le matériau de gainage, présentant une masse volumique d'au moins 50 kg/m3 et d'au plus 300 kg/m3, et
    un paramètre Z qui est défini par Z = ρ Web + 5 · ρ Web + 12 · A Web

    satisfaisant à l'inégalité 1 350 ≤ Z ≤ 2 600, dans laquelle
    ρWeb est la masse volumique du matériau de feuille continue en kg/m3,
    ρSeg est la masse volumique du segment sans le matériau de gainage en kg/m3, et AWeb est l'aire du matériau de feuille continue par volume du segment en cm2/cm3, le matériau de gainage étant formé d'un papier ayant un grammage d'au moins 20 g/m2 et d'au plus 150 g/m2, et
    dans lequel le matériau de gainage présente une rigidité en flexion d'au moins 0,05 Nmm et d'au plus 0,90 Nmm.
  2. Article à fumer selon la revendication 1, dans lequel la proportion des fibres de cellulose dans le matériau de feuille continue est d'au moins 60 %, de préférence d'au moins 90 % et d'une manière particulièrement préférée d'au moins 99 %, dans chaque cas par rapport à la masse du matériau de feuille continue.
  3. Article à fumer selon la revendication 1 ou 2, dans lequel les fibres de cellulose sont formées de fibres de pâte de bois provenant de bois de feuillu ou de bois résineux, sont obtenues d'autres plantes, en particulier le chanvre, le lin, le sisal, le jute, l'abaca ou l'alfa, ou sont formées à partir de mélanges de ceux-ci.
  4. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel le matériau de feuille continue contient moins de 5 % de sa masse de polymères non naturels, de préférence contient moins de 1 % de sa masse de polymères non naturels, et d'une manière particulièrement préférée ne contient pas de polymères non naturels.
  5. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel le matériau de bande continue contient des fibres de cellulose régénérée, en particulier des fibres de viscose, des fibres de modal, du Lyocell® ou du Tencel®, leur proportion étant de préférence inférieure à 60 % de la masse du matériau de feuille continue et d'une manière particulièrement préférée inférieure à 40 % de la masse du matériau de feuille continue.
  6. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel le matériau de feuille continue contient des charges, les charges étant de préférence formées de carbonate de calcium, en particulier de carbonate de calcium précipité, d'oxyde de magnésium, d'hydroxyde de magnésium, d'hydroxyde d'aluminium, de dioxyde de titane, de silicates ou de mélanges de ceux-ci, la proportion des charges, par rapport à la masse du matériau de feuille continue, étant de préférence d'au moins 0 %, de préférence d'au moins 5 % et d'une manière particulièrement préférée d'au moins 10 %, et de préférence d'au plus 40 %, de préférence d'au plus 35 % et d'une manière particulièrement préférée d'au plus 30 %.
  7. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel le matériau de feuille continue est couché, en particulier est couché de poly(alcool vinylique) ou d'un polysaccharide, le polysaccharide étant de préférence choisi dans le groupe consistant en l'amidon, la carboxyméthylcellulose, le guar, la dextrine, la pectine ou les mélanges de ceux-ci, et/ou le matériau de feuille continue est imprégné, en particulier est imprégné de glycérol ou de propylèneglycol.
  8. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel le matériau de feuille continue contient des substances aromatisantes, les substances aromatisantes étant présentes de préférence sous une forme chimiquement liée ou sous une forme physiquement liée, par exemple encapsulées, dans le matériau de feuille continue, les substances aromatisantes étant de préférence choisies dans le groupe consistant en le menthol, l'éthylvanillineglucoside, la vanilline et l'éthylvanilline.
  9. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel le grammage du matériau de feuille continue est compris entre 20 g/m2 et 60 g/m2, de préférence entre 25 g/m2 et 50 g/m2.
  10. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel l'épaisseur du matériau de feuille continue est comprise entre 35 µm et 150 µm, de préférence entre 40 µm et 100 µm.
  11. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel la masse volumique du matériau de feuille continue est comprise entre 100 kg/m3 et 1200 kg/m3, de préférence entre 200 kg/m3 et 700 kg/m3 et d'une manière particulièrement préférée entre 300 kg/m3 et 600 kg/m3.
  12. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, qui contient entre 30 cm2/cm3 et 80 cm2/cm3, de préférence entre 35 cm2/cm3 et 70 cm2/cm3 de matériau de feuille continue par cm3 de volume du segment.
  13. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dont la masse volumique, sans le matériau de gainage, est comprise entre 60 kg/m3 et 250 kg/m3, de préférence entre 70 kg/m3 et 200 kg/m3, et/ou dans lequel le paramètre Z est d'au moins 1400 et d'au plus 2 400, et/ou dans lequel le matériau de gainage est formé d'un papier ayant un grammage d'au moins 50 g/m2 et d'au plus 120 g/m2.
  14. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel le matériau de gainage présente une rigidité en flexion d'au moins 0,10 Nmm et d'au plus 0,80 Nmm, et/ou dans lequel le segment est cylindrique et a de préférence un diamètre d'au moins 5 mm et d'au plus 9 mm, d'une manière particulièrement préférée d'au moins 7 mm et d'au plus 8,5 mm, et/ou dans lequel le segment a une longueur d'au moins 4 mm et d'au plus 40 mm, de préférence a une longueur d'au moins 6 mm et d'au plus 35 mm, et d'une manière particulièrement préférée a une longueur d'au moins 10 mm et d'au plus 28 mm.
  15. Article à fumer selon l'une des revendications précédentes, dans lequel le segment est disposé entre le matériau produisant un aérosol et un segment formant filtre.
