  • the present invention relates to a filter cigarette with variable ventilation.
  • Filter cigarettes are well known and generally comprise a cylindrical rod of tobacco surrounded by a paper wrapper and a cylindrical filter adjacent thereto and axially aligned therewith. It is usual for the tobacco rod and filter to be joined by a band of tipping paper that encases the entire length of the filter and an adjacent portion of the wrapped tobacco rod. It is also well known for the tipping paper to be provided with one or more perforations at a location on the filter in order to introduce air to the smoke produced from the lit tobacco rod. It is also known to provide means for varying the mixing of the air passing though the perforations to enable a user to vary the ratio of air to smoke, and thereby vary the strength of the cigarette, with a larger proportion of smoke to air increasing the strength of the cigarette.

  • Attempts have been made to overcome such problems by providing scale and cursor arrangements to provide an indication of adjustment amount to a user, as disclosed in WO-A-2011/116976 , for example, where a cursor is provided on either the fixed or rotatable part of the cigarette, and a scale is provided on the other of the fixed and rotatable parts, with the respective movement between the cursor and scale providing an indication of the level of ventilation provided to the filter of the cigarette.
  • Such configurations still have disadvantages in that they do not provide a simple and readily understandable indication of selected cigarette strength and still provide a fair degree of uncertainty to the user in terms of the cigarette strength when making an adjustment.
  • a filter cigarette comprising: a rod of smokable material; a mouth piece attached to the rod, the mouth piece comprising an element rotatable with respect to the rest of the filter cigarette about the longitudinal axis thereof such that a user can vary the ventilation of the filter cigarette, and a fixed element that is fixed relative to the rod; and a strength indicator comprising: a first scale extending circumferentially around the periphery of the rotatable element, and a second scale extending circumferentially around the fixed element, wherein each scale comprises a single marker formed by a line having its extremities intersecting a separation line between the rotatable element and the rest of the cigarette.

Claims (8)

  1. Cigarette à bout filtre (1) comprenant :
    un cylindre de matériau à fumer (2) ;
    un embout fixé au cylindre, l'embout comprenant un élément (5) rotatif par rapport au reste de la cigarette à bout filtre autour de son axe longitudinal de sorte qu'un utilisateur puisse varier la ventilation de la cigarette à bout filtre, et un élément fixe (6) qui est fixe par rapport au cylindre ; et
    un indicateur d'intensité comprenant :
    une première graduation (20) s'étendant circonférentiellement autour de la périphérie de l'élément rotatif, et une seconde graduation (21) s'étendant circonférentiellement autour de l'élément fixe, dans laquelle chaque graduation comprend un seul repère formé par une ligne ayant ses extrémités coupant une ligne de séparation (12) entre l'élément rotatif et le reste de la cigarette.
  2. Cigarette à bout filtre (1) selon la revendication 1, dans laquelle les deux graduations (20, 21) forment ensemble une figure constituée d'au moins une ligne fermée lorsque les graduations sont agencées dans une position représentant un niveau d'intensité minimal.
  3. Cigarette à bout filtre (1) selon la revendication 2, dans laquelle les deux graduations (20, 21) sont symétriques autour de la ligne de séparation (12) lorsque les graduations sont agencées dans une position représentant un niveau d'intensité minimal.
  4. Cigarette à bout filtre (1) selon la revendication 2 ou 3, dans laquelle les deux graduations (20, 21) forment un polygone comprenant un nombre pair de côtés lorsque les graduations sont agencées dans une position représentant un niveau d'intensité minimal.
  5. Cigarette à bout filtre (1) selon la revendication 1 ou 2, dans laquelle les deux graduations (20, 21) ont uniquement une de leurs extrémités se joignant l'une l'autre au niveau de la ligne de séparation (12) lorsque les graduations sont agencées dans une position représentant un niveau d'intensité maximal.
  6. Cigarette à bout filtre (1) selon les revendications 1 à 5, dans laquelle une ou chacune des graduations (20, 21) est symétrique autour de l'axe longitudinal de la cigarette.
  7. Cigarette à bout filtre (1) selon les revendications 1 à 6, dans laquelle une ou chaque graduation (20, 21) est formée par une ligne continue.
  8. Cigarette à bout filtre (1) selon les revendications 1 à 6, dans laquelle une ou chaque graduation (20, 21) est formée par une ligne discontinue.
