Description

Die Erfindung zielt im gleichen Maße auch auf ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines solchen Aufzeichnungsmaterials, geeignet zur Offset-Bedruckung auch mit höheren DruckgeschwindigkeitenThe invention relates to a recording material suitable for offset printing, even at higher printing speeds, which in particular does not have process- and raw-material-cost-intensive protective layers on at least one recording layer formed thereunder. In particular, the present invention is directed to recording materials having at least one heat and / or pressure sensitive recording layer and / or having an ink jet receiving layer as the respective recording layer. The invention also aims to the same extent to a method for producing such a recording material, suitable for offset printing, even at higher printing speeds

Recording materials, in particular heat-sensitive recording materials, which should be suitable for offset printing, even at higher printing speeds, generally have a protective layer which covers the heat-sensitive recording layer over its entire area.
  • □ Such a protective layer ensures, on the one hand, greater resistance to organic solvents, plasticizers, if appropriate photoinitiators, as used in printing with UV-crosslinking printing inks, oils and fats: heat-sensitive recording materials with such protective layers are sometimes considered to be extremely well-tried and are the subject of other the EP 1 333 991 who EP 1 663 662 , of the DE 199 58 095 and also other patents in which the protective layer does not have to be a central subject of the inventive idea. However, the provision of chemical resistance to be emphasized by protective layers to be formed on a given heat- and / or pressure-sensitive recording layer is not the subject matter of the present invention. Such resistance may not be necessary or absent from the given recording layer in the recording materials used herein.
  • On the other hand, such a protective layer also ensures the necessary layer sealing, so that the recording materials to be used in the event of possible printing by means of offset can withstand the tensile and plucking forces which occur during printing and which can cause individual particles, in particular individual pigment particles, to tear out.

The present invention now provides a first task aspect in providing the public with a recording material which is suitable for offset printing, even at relatively high printing speeds, in which the guarantee of chemical resistance of a protective layer to be formed is less important and which nevertheless results from convincing layer sealing in the sense of of the second bullet point of the previous paragraph. Along with this, the new recording material should ideally and preferably have improved scratch resistance as a second task aspect. Such scratch resistance implies that mutual displacement of the recording material to be proposed here in the stack does not result in visible scratch marks on the surface of the recording material and / or visible color reaction in the heat and / or pressure sensitive recording layer of the recording material to be proposed here. Crucially, however, the recording material to be proposed here has to be as particularly favorable in production as possible, in order to be still competitively priced with superior product characteristics in the current market situation. In a further, fourth task aspect, the inventors are interested in the fact that the recording material to be proposed should have a good stampability, which means for the purposes of the present invention that a stamp imprint, as it is preferably used for devaluation in public transport, after 10 seconds exposure time can not be wiped dry or damp without residue.

To solve these pending problems, a recording material for offset printing is proposed,
  • with a web-shaped substrate, having a front side and a rear side opposite the front side,
  • with at least one recording layer on at least one side of the substrate,
  • with at least one coating layer covering the entire surface of the recording layer,
wherein the novel recording material is characterized in that the at least one coating layer covering the entire recording layer has a weight per unit area of between 0.05 and 0.8 g / m 2 . Preferably, the area-related Mass even within a range of 0.08 and 0.5 g / m 2 or even further limited within a range of 0.15 and 0.35 g / m 2 .

The coating composition for forming a coating layer covering the recording layer and also the coating layer itself mainly comprises binder preferably selected from the list comprising ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH), carboxyl group-, silanol- or diacetone-modified polyvinyl alcohol as well as unmodified polyvinyl alcohol, wherein the previously enumerated as preferred binders in a first particularly preferred embodiment alone, in a second particularly preferred embodiment in admixture with each other or in a third embodiment in admixture with other binders in the coating layer to be involved.

It is preferred that the binders enumerated above as preferred always contain from 50% by weight to 100% by weight, very particularly preferably from 75% by weight to 98% by weight, in each case on the total weight of the coating composition to form a coating layer covering the recording layer over its entire area.

Optionally, the coating composition for forming a coating layer covering the recording layer and also the coating layer itself preferably contains at least one crosslinking aid selected from the list comprising boric acid, polyamine, epoxy resin, dialdehyde, formaldehyde oligomers, epiochlorohydrin resin, adipic dihydrazide, dimethylurea, melamine formaldehyde enumerated crosslinking aids should preferably be incorporated in the coating layer alone or in admixture with one another. Also, a mixture of enumerated crosslinking aids with other crosslinking aids not mentioned here is conceivable. In total, the crosslinking aids preferably constitute from 3% to 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the coating composition, of a coating layer which covers the entire surface of the recording layer.

In principle, it is possible to incorporate pigments, in particular inorganic pigments, in the coating composition for forming a coating layer covering the recording layer over its entire surface and likewise in the coating layer itself, but it represents a clearly favored embodiment if these Coating layer remains pigment-free. On the other hand, possible further ingredients of the coating composition for forming a coating layer covering the recording layer over its entire area and also the coating layer itself are optical brighteners, optionally defoamers and flow improvers in the case of a possible application of the coating layer by means of a curtain coater.

A coating layer as proposed in the previous paragraphs [0004] to [0008] is capable of significantly increasing the pick resistance of the proposed recording material on the side on which the coating layer is at least applied, at a low or even justifiable economic cost and thus to improve the offset printability. At the same time, the scratch resistance of the proposed recording material is significantly improved on the side on which the coating layer is at least applied.

The recording material for offset printing proposed here initially has few limiting obstacles, but the invention is directed to a recording material having at least one recording layer on at least one side of the substrate, the recording layer preferably being selected from the list comprising: heat-sensitive recording layer , pressure-sensitive recording layer, inkjet-receiving layer.

In order to improve the sliding properties on a thermal head and to prevent excessive wear of the thermal head, the coating composition for forming the thermosensitive recording layer may further contain slip and release agents such as metal salts of higher fatty acids, for example, zinc stearate, calcium stearate and waxes such as paraffin, oxidized paraffin, Polyethylene, polyethylene oxide, stearamides and castor wax. Further constituents of the recording layer are optionally, for example, pigments, preferably inorganic pigments such as, for example, aluminum (hydr) oxide, silica and calcium carbonate, in particular calcium carbonate, which should preferably be incorporated into the recording layer in an amount of from 0 to 45% by weight, very particularly preferably in an amount of from 10 to 40% by weight, based in each case on the total weight of the recording layer, as preferably applies.

  • heat-sensitive recording layer,
  • pressure-sensitive recording layer,
  • Ink-receiving layer
is applied by means of a coating unit selected from the list, comprising: roller blade coater, knife coater, curtain coater (in the embodiment as slit caster or sliding surface caster) and air brush. In this case, the coating composition used to form the recording layer is preferably aqueous. The subsequent drying of the coating composition is usually done by a method in which heat is supplied, as is done by hot-air floating dryer or contact dryer. Proven is also a combination of the listed dry processes. The basis weight of the recording layer is preferably between 2 and 6 g / m 2 in the case of the recording material proposed here.

The coating composition for forming a coating layer covering the recording layer over the entire area is most preferably applied by means of a coating unit selected from the list, comprising: roller coater, curtain coater (in the embodiment as slot coater or slip surface coater) and air brush. Subsequently, this applied coating composition is crosslinked depending on the given component entry and / or dried by means of heat.

Especially with regard to the underlying task aspect of economically most economical production, the proposed method preferably provides that
  1. (a.) applying a prepared coating composition to form a recording layer on at least one side of the substrate and
  2. (b.) applying a prepared coating composition to form a coating layer covering the recording layer over the entire area
in the context of exactly one machine run happens. This can be done in the context of a first preferred embodiment such that on a paper or coater first the coating composition for forming the recording layer is applied and dried and then the coating composition for forming those of the recording layer over the entire area covering coating layer is applied and dried. In the context of a second preferred embodiment variant, the coating composition for forming the recording layer and immediately thereafter (wet-wet) the coating composition is applied to form the coating layer which covers the recording layer over its entire area. The joint drying of the two applied layers follows it. In a variant of the second preferred embodiment, the coating composition for forming the recording layer and the coating composition for forming the coating layer covering the recording layer over the entire area are co-applied, using a curtain coater in the form of a slip surface caster.

It represents a further preferred embodiment of the proposed method, if the method comprises the at least two additional method steps:
  • Applying a prepared coating composition to form a pigmented intermediate layer disposed between the substrate and the recording layer,
  • ▪ drying the pigmented intermediate layer,
these being at least two additional process steps prior to the step of "applying a prepared coating composition to form a recording layer on at least one side of the substrate".

The coating units preferably used for the formation of the pigmented intermediate layer are, in particular, leveling coating units selected from the list, comprising: roller coater, doctor blade coater or doctor blade coater. Especially in a method using one of these mentioned coating method, such a pigmented intermediate layer can make a positive contribution to equalize the substrate surface, which reduces the amount of applied mass of a usually expensive coating composition for forming the recording layer. The subsequent drying of the coating composition to form the pigmented intermediate layer is done again and here usually by a method in which heat is supplied, as is done by hot-air floating dryer or contact dryer. Proven is also a combination of the listed dry processes. For the basis weight of the pigmented intermediate layer, a preferred range between 5 and 20 g / m 2 and even better between 7 and 12 g / m 2 has proven.

This coating composition for forming the pigmented intermediate layer contains binders and preferably a mixture of organic pigments and inorganic pigments. The inorganic pigments are thereby preferred, individually or in combination with one another, selected from the list, comprising: silicon (di) oxide, bentonite, talc, calcined kaolin, calcium carbonate and aluminum oxide and here in particular boehmite. The above inorganic pigments, individually or in combination with one another, selected from the list above, are quoted as one of the list comprising: calcined kaolin, calcium carbonate and aluminum oxide, and here especially boehmite.

In addition to the inorganic and optionally also organic pigments, the coating composition for forming the pigmented intermediate layer contains at least one binder, preferably based on a synthetic polymer, wherein, for example, styrene-butadiene latex gives particularly good results. The use of a synthetic binder with the admixture of at least one natural polymer, such as particularly preferred starch, represents a particularly suitable embodiment.

The surface mass,% by weight (% by weight) and parts by weight (parts by weight) given in the specification and claims refer to the "atro" weight, respectively. absolutely dry parts by weight. In the comments on the organic pigments of the pigment-containing interlayer, the relevant figures are calculated from the "lutro" weight, i. air-dry parts by weight, minus the proportion by weight of water around and inside the pigments in their form of delivery.
