- the brightness of the light sources 7 is subject to a fluctuation during their lifetime, or in the course of temperature changes. Since, according to the invention, diverging light is used for the measurement without the aid of lenses, these fluctuations can impair the measuring accuracy, so that a brightness control for compensating for these fluctuations increases the accuracy.
- a plurality of measured values are determined, which then gain in accuracy by averaging.
- short-term disturbances such as movements of the conveyed material 4 or interruptions of the light propagation, can thus be filtered out. That way you can high accuracies can be achieved without depending on only a projected maximum or peak value, as is the case for example with the use of laser light.
- the side surface shape of the conveyed product 4 can also be checked, ie whether the side surface is approximately smooth, knurled or cambered, or how thick the conveyed material 4 is.
- the device according to the invention or the method according to the invention also requires no optics, and is hardly sensitive to dirt, since the conveyed 4 is illuminated from the bottom, and the sensitive light detectors 3 are located above the conveyed 4.
- the invention thus realizes a device and a method for the detection of coins and coin-like conveyed, on the one hand, a reliable detection of the conveyed material even with brief disturbing influences, such as movements of the conveyed material or impaired light beams is ensured, and on the other hand, no sensitivity given to contamination.
- the device according to the invention is simple in structure and therefore also inexpensive.

The invention relates to a device for detecting coins and coin-like conveyed by means of at least one light source for divergent light beam and at least one light detector, and a conveyor for horizontal transport of the separated conveyed material, wherein the conveyor in a detection area between the at least one light source and the at least one light detector According to the preamble of
Generic device for coin recognition are usually based on the use of laser light, since the linear, so parallel propagation of the laser light allows accurate scanning of the conveyed, and thus a simple measurement allowed. In this case, the conveyed material is moved through one or more laser beams, and obtained from the interruption of the laser beam through the conveyed information that allows identification of the corresponding conveyed. However, the use of laser light in practice also has disadvantages, since the accuracy of the spot-precise measurement is reduced by briefly disturbing influences, such as movements of the conveyed material, or interruptions or impairments of the light beam. Thus, devices based on laser light also prove to be sensitive to dirt.
The use of light sources for divergent light bundles, in particular for incoherent light, is generally discarded, since this requires the use of optics, which in turn is associated with disadvantages. For example, the lenses of such an optic have to be adjusted and cleaned again and again.
It is therefore the object of the invention to realize a device or a method for the detection of coins and coin-like conveyed material which does not have these disadvantages, and on the one hand a reliable detection of the conveyed even with short-term disturbing influences, such as movements of the conveyed or Impairment of light rays, allowed, and on the other hand also insensitive to contamination. The device according to the invention should be simple in construction and therefore cost-effective.
These objects are achieved by the features of
According to the invention, work is therefore carried out with diverging light bundles, so that the use of laser light with parallel light propagation, or of lenses and the like, and the associated disadvantages are avoided. Diverging light bundles are here understood as light bundles with non-parallel marginal rays, in contrast to laser light with parallel propagation of light, for example, the divergence of the light bundles being of the order of magnitude of the conveyed material to be measured.
The supposedly lower accuracy of a measurement using non-point-like, ie diverging, light is compensated by additional measures, namely by means of a repeated measurement of a defined diameter of the conveyed material, namely that in the conveying direction. This is achieved, on the one hand, by the at least one light detector having a line-shaped detection region parallel to the conveying direction onto which the diameter of the conveyed material is imaged in the conveying direction, and the conveyor has a centering device for centering the conveyed material relative to the line-shaped detecting region. Finally, due to the repeated measurement, an average value can be formed which briefly compensates for interfering influences during a measurement and increases the accuracy of the recognition. The Applicant has found that by means of the measures according to the invention accuracies of recognition can be achieved, which are quite within the range of Laser light-based devices are without, however, having the disadvantages associated with these devices.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention may further be provided that a first group of light sources is arranged so that their respective optical axis is oriented normal to conveyed, and a second group of light sources is arranged so that their respective optical axis obliquely to Conveyed goods is oriented. The first group is ideal for determining the diameter of the conveyed material, and the second group for determining the side surface shape of the conveyed material, ie whether the side surface is approximately smooth, knurled or cambered, or how thick the conveyed material is. Thus, the device is also suitable for the detection of coin-like conveyed material, such as round conveyed with holes, similar to a washer, and thus about to check such objects on inner and outer diameter or offset, since the edge positions are evaluated, and not just the covered area ,
Preferably, the light sources are LEDs (light-emitting diodes). Such light sources are inexpensive and durable. The at least one light detector is preferably at least one row of photodiodes. In this case, two rows of photodiodes can be provided, which are arranged one behind the other parallel to the conveying direction. If the scanning of the diameter is synchronized, disturbing influences of the movement of the conveyed material can be additionally reduced.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention may further be provided that the conveyor is designed as an inclined conveyor, and the centering device comprises pairs of bolts, wherein the line-shaped detection area is arranged in a plane of symmetry between the two bolts. This represents a simple realization of the centering device. Due to the oblique arrangement of the conveyor in the detection area namely the conveyed is safely absorbed by the two bolts due to gravity. If the line-shaped detection region is arranged in a plane of symmetry between the two bolts, the conveyed material is automatically centered relative to the line-shaped detection region, so that the diameter of the conveyed material in the conveying direction is measured.
A simple embodiment of the conveyor provides, for example, that the conveyor comprises two parallel toothed belts, wherein in each case a bolt is arranged on one of the two toothed belts. It can be in the detection area between the Timing belt to be arranged a central web, which projects slightly beyond the two toothed belts. As a result, the conveyed material is entrained by the conveying bolts via the central web, so that a secure centering and smooth bearing between the bolts is ensured in the detection area, whereby a uniform scanning of the conveyed material is ensured.
In order to improve the accuracy of the measurement, it is further possible to provide a regulation for the brightness of the light sources in order to keep the brightness of the light sources constant.
According to the invention, a method for detecting coins and coin-like conveyed material by means of at least one light source for divergent light bundles and at least one light detector with a line-shaped detection area, and a conveyor in a detection area, the scattered, lying conveyed along a conveying direction between the at least one light source and the at least one light detector moves through, wherein the conveying direction is parallel to the line-shaped detection area, proposed. According to the invention, it is provided that the conveyed material is aligned centrically relative to the line-shaped detection region by means of a centering device, and in a first process step the diameter of the conveyed material is irradiated in the conveying direction with a first group of light sources for diverging light bundles whose respective optical axis is normal to the conveyed material and is projected onto the at least one light detector, wherein the irradiated diameter is measured several times and determined by subsequent averaging. The device according to measures for ensuring a projection of the diameter of the conveyed in the conveying direction have been explained above, namely on the one hand the at least one light detector has a line-shaped detection area parallel to the conveying direction, and the conveyor has a centering device for centric alignment of the conveyed relative to the line-shaped detection area.
Finally, it can be provided that, in a second process step, the diameter of the conveyed material is irradiated in the conveying direction by a second group of light sources for diverging light bundles whose respective optical axis is oriented obliquely to the conveyed material, the irradiated diameter being measured several times and the subsequent averaging Side surface shape of the conveyed material is determined.
The first and second process steps can also be carried out several times in succession, that is, following the second process step, further processes with the first and second process steps.

Above the
To improve the accuracy of the measurement, it is also possible to provide a regulation for the brightness of the
As a result of the repeated determination of the position of the conveyed
The device according to the invention or the method according to the invention also requires no optics, and is hardly sensitive to dirt, since the conveyed 4 is illuminated from the bottom, and the
The invention thus realizes a device and a method for the detection of coins and coin-like conveyed, on the one hand, a reliable detection of the conveyed material even with brief disturbing influences, such as movements of the conveyed material or impaired light beams is ensured, and on the other hand, no sensitivity given to contamination. The device according to the invention is simple in structure and therefore also inexpensive.
