Claims (17)

  1. Apparatus for controlled passage of persons, having a walk-through gate, the exit of which is closed by an exit door (5) that opens in response to a signal from at least one biometric unit (8) for capturing biometric characteristics of a person seeking passage, which biometric unit is arranged in the gate area (3),
    wherein the biometric unit (8) is arranged directly facing towards the entrance to the gate area (3),
    wherein the exit door (5) of the gate area (3) consists in a manner known per se of at least one pivoting flap (5), and the biometric unit (8) is integrated in the at least one pivoting flap (5),
    and wherein the biometric unit (8) is a recording device (8) for capturing biometric characteristics, for example of the face as a whole and/or of the iris, of a person seeking passage; a display (9) for the image recorded by the recording device (8) is provided; and the recording device (8) and the display (9) are integrated in the pivoting flap (5) of the exit door (5) of the gate area (3).
  2. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that in the gate area (3) there are arranged illuminating means (10) for uniform, low-glare, low-shadow and low-reflection illumination of a person's face.
  3. Apparatus according to claim 2, characterised in that the illuminating means (10) are integrated in the pivoting flap (5) of the exit door (5) above and/or below and/or next to the recording device (8).
  4. Apparatus according to claim 2 or 3, characterised in that the illuminating means (10) are movable and/or controllable.
  5. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that in the physical vicinity of the biometric unit (8) there is arranged a sound generation device for generating short, broadband noises, such as clicking or cracking noises.
  6. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the access to the gate area (3) is barred by an entry door (4) which opens in response to a signal from a monitoring unit (6) for authorising access of a person, which monitoring unit is arranged in the entrance region.
  7. Apparatus according to claim 6, characterised in that the monitoring unit (6) is a device (6) for capturing the asserted identity especially of authorisation documents or identity cards or passports or is a device for capturing a PIN.
  8. Apparatus according to claim 7, characterised in that the device (6) for capturing the asserted identity is assigned a display unit (7) on which the capturing process can be followed.

  11. Apparatus according to claim 10, characterised in that the biometric unit (8) for capturing biometric characteristics, especially biometric characteristics of the face and/or the iris, of a person seeking passage is displaceable vertically by a linear drive.
  12. Apparatus according to claim 10, characterised in that the device for capturing the body height of a person seeking passage consists of a light curtain and downstream of that light curtain there is arranged an electronic unit for generating a control signal for the vertical travel unit of the biometric unit (8), which control signal is dependent upon that body height.
  13. Apparatus according to claim 12, characterised in that the light curtain consists of a number of light barriers arranged one above the other and transversely with respect to the direction of entry.
  14. Apparatus according to claim 13, characterised in that the spacing between the individual light barriers is 2.5 cm.
  15. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that a plurality of light barriers are integrated in the base (1) of the apparatus a small distance from the floor of the gate area (3) over the length of the latter.
