Definitions
- the invention relates to an environmentally friendly, solvent-free printing ink, in particular for printing on single-pane safety glass (ESG), as well as its use in the form of a method for producing this printing, for example.
- ESG single-pane safety glass
- glass is a widely used and widely used material. So glass is u.a. also widely used as safety glass in the form of toughened safety glass (ESG) and laminated safety glass (VSG).
- ESG toughened safety glass
- VSG laminated safety glass
- ESG Single-pane safety glass
- ESG is used wherever the safety requirements for bending strength and thermal shock resistance are of high importance. This is the case, for example, with glass doors, banisters, lift panels and especially in facades.
- ESG is made from a normal float glass by a special tempering process. The already formed glass is heated over the transformation area and then quickly cooled down with a "shower of air" defined air pressure. To the decoration or visual enhancement as well as necessary information representation safety glass is printed.
- the screen printing on glass as a decorative, informative or functional element Screen printing offers the possibility to print arbitrary shapes that are not geometrically definable or to print images on glass Screen screen printing enables finely graduated shades and thus creates a variety of optical effects.
- the ceramic colors are dried after screen printing and then baked at 600 0 C. At these temperatures, the enamel combines with the glass, resulting in a very adhesive, weather and scratch resistant compound. However, due to the heavy metals contained in these ceramics, the color palette has become increasingly smaller in recent years.
- the total costs for the screen printing process with ceramic paints amount to approx. € 71.00 / h including all modules and energy costs.
- organic colors are distinguished by a higher diversity and easy curing by means of UV radiation.
- a short thermal post cure is.
- these dyes do not have the high hardness and abrasion resistance as the inorganic systems.
- You will also need a glass pretreatment (Pyrosil®) in order to bond firmly together receive.
- the biggest drawback of acrylate-based organic paints is their lack of weathering stability, which makes outdoor use impossible.
- Another disadvantage of the organic systems are the solvents frequently used for the application of the paints or the cleaning of the sieves, which are covered by the VOC directive.
- the decorative or informative elements using the enamel colors are replaced by the o.g. Screen printing process first on the untreated, but already cut, drilled, ground and possibly curved float glass spent. Thereafter, the printed glass is biased to the ESG. Since very high temperatures are required both for tempering and for stoving in the colors, the glass finishers have already begun to merge the two energy-intensive processes.
- the goal of the glass processor is to print ESG only after processing and tempering. This presupposes that an aqueous-based ink system is used, which is considerably less Temperatures and in minimum time drying.
- the application should be made via an alternative application system, which is suitable for such colors and can reproduce decors and logos without edge course. However, this is not possible with the currently available processes and coating systems.
- An alternative to the above-mentioned methods and systems is not yet available.
- the powder coatings have been used for decades in a wide variety of industrial applications, but so far they can only be applied over a large area on surfaces due to their processing properties, i. There are no decors, patterns or logos, eg. By printing, feasible.
- Solvent-based liquid systems can be used. On very smooth surfaces, especially glass, however, there is the
- the document DE 198 46 650 A1 discloses a slurry with microencapsulated particles. According to this disclosure, a
- Powder Clearcoat Slurry at least one hydroxylgrappen ambiences
- Binder A at least one polyisocyanate as crosslinking agent B and water, wherein the hydroxyl-containing binder A and the
- Polyisocyanates B are homogenized such that not less than 30, preferably not less than 60 and in particular not less than 90
- Particles are dispersed or dissolved, and possibly still in the aqueous
- Phase containing particles of the crosslinking agent B and the particles containing the binder A and the crosslinking agent B, are stabilized via the isocyanate groups present on its surface by means of an aqueous phase added deactivating agent.
- This powder clearcoat slurry is used, for example, as a clearcoat in automotive finishing, with a complete body in mass production receiving a powder clearcoat which is applied in the aqueous phase.
- the disadvantage of this slurry is that it is not colored and does not adhere to it after being applied to glass surfaces.
- Object of the present invention is therefore to provide an environmentally friendly, solvent-free printing ink, in particular for the colored printing of a carrier, eg. Glass / tempered glass, and a use of this ink, which avoid the disadvantages of the prior art.
- a carrier eg. Glass / tempered glass
- the essence of the invention lies in the provision of a novel drakeable color system based on powder-shell slurries
- PLS digitally printable, solvent-free inks
- Pre-treatment digital printing technology, such as ink-jet printing technology and curing technology for the inline process.
- the present invention provides novel powder paints based on powder coating slurries (PLS) and adapted digital printing technology.
- PLS powder coating slurries
- the PLS-based printing inks according to the invention are a) able to be produced and used for the free design of the glass surface in all shades, b) can be processed by means of digital printing technology (this includes the parallel printing of different colored PLS 3 without the individual shades running into each other), c) very good adhesion to the glass surface to be imprinted, d) characterized by a high mechanical and optical stability (thus also in the Outdoor use) e) and have a high weather stability.
- An inventive use of the PLS-based inks is the use of a corresponding, efficient technology for coating with powder coating slurries and curing them.
- the colored powder coating slurries according to the invention require considerably lower temperatures for curing.
- the use of infrared heat radiators can not only bring about the desired effect of complete drying and polymerization of the color layers, but rather also a shortening of the drying time in comparison to conventional powder coatings, which currently have about 10 min. in the conventional heating furnace and therefore not compatible for an inline process.
- the mutually adverse effects of thermal staining of the ceramic colors and caused by thermal effects "biasing" of the glass panes are thereby bypassed, which are otherwise a common cause of quality defects and rejects.
- the glass surface is provided with a surface activation adapted to the color system, in addition to the provision of powder coating slurries with a suitable adhesion promoter, in order to obtain adhesion-stable and weather-resistant coatings or printing.
- the paint system of the invention based on powder coating slurries, which (a) combine environmentally friendly components (ie they are free of heavy metals and solvents); (b) are characterized by a simple application and energy-efficient curing technology, (c) by the application of a suitable
- the substitution of enamel paints by the use of the color of the invention with appropriate weathering stability also for outdoor use, so that at the same time based on the printing of the invention a new coating technology for glass surfaces / a new coating is provided on glass surfaces.
- the present method represents a simple and inexpensive processing for the printing of glass, which ensures the color diversity according to the RAL spectrum and is stable in terms of resistance to chemical and environmental influences.
- the powder coating Smrry technology according to the invention combines the advantages of water (slurry) and powder coating.
- the pigmented system according to the invention is a very fine powder coating suspension based on polyester-epoxy in water and additives.
- the additives stabilize the powder coating / water mixture and optimize the course of the resulting coating. After suspending, the mixture becomes wet to a particle size of 3 microns ground.
- the product can be processed with spray paint systems suitable for liquid coatings and applied like a conventional water-based paint.
- closed powder coating films can be achieved as early as 15 ⁇ m dry film thickness.
- PLS are baked after the evaporation of the water at object temperatures of 160 0 C for at least 10 min. This results in high quality powder coating with very good flow, high corrosion resistance and favorable mechanical properties.
- PLS complies with VOC guidelines because no solvents are used.
- the colored PLS according to the invention enable processing with modern printing systems.
- the pressure-sprayable, solvent-free, colored PLS are provided with pigment particles (preferably 3 ⁇ m) which do not exceed a certain size in order to keep the system fluid for use in printheads, v. A. to ensure the passage through the nozzle openings.
- the sufficient adhesion of the new color system on the glass surfaces is effected according to the invention by adhesion promoters.
- the PLS according to the invention as well as the enamel paints, have a high mechanical and chemical stability. This is ensured by the fact that the color system according to the invention contains substances which ensure a sufficient surface hardness. This is realized i.a. by overcoating the printed areas with a scratch-resistant clearcoat, e.g. based on a transparent PLS.
- the advantage of the PLS according to the invention is that the system also has the very good properties of enamel paints and is not limited in its color palette and its processing is much easier and less expensive than the known enamel method by means of the inventive printing (coating) and the According to the method of the invention, it is possible to color the surface of tempered glass and even of float glass, since the high baking temperatures can be dispensed with.
- PLS Unlike enamel paints, PLS require significantly less temperature for curing. As a result, the use of infrared heat radiators can not only bring about the desired effect of complete drying and polymerization of the color layers, it is also intended to achieve a shortening of the drying time in comparison to conventional powder coatings, which currently have about 10 min. in the conventional heating furnace and is not compatible for an inline process. In order to achieve sufficient adhesion of the color layers on the glass surfaces, it is necessary to equip the glass surface with a surface activation adapted to the color system in order to be able to permanently apply adhesion-stable and weather-resistant coatings, in addition to equipping the PLS with a suitable adhesion promoter.
- the coating according to the invention and the technology according to the invention which retains the very good properties of the previously used enamel screen printing inks, but saves time, energy and cost, are much easier to process and cheaper to process than the prior art, the coating and the Technology but are not limited in their color palette.
