Abstract

This utility model refers to paint-roller sleeves (1) that are made of preformed shrink wrap material, consisting of a cylindrical tubular body (1) closed at both ends with flat ring-shaped disks (3).
The object of the invention is to provide the sleeve with rigidity to maintain the cylindrical shape of the roller and a means of opening the sleeve (788) in order to easily extract the roller.

Description

    OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
  • This utility model refers to the kind of paint-roller sleeves that are made of preformed shrink wrap material, consisting of a cylindrical tubular body closed at both ends with flat ring-shaped disks.
  • The object of the invention is to provide the sleeve with rigidity to maintain the cylindrical shape of the roller and a means of opening the sleeve in order to easily extract the roller.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Paint rollers consist of a cylindrical body made of a porous material that absorbs paint. A handle runs through the body in such a way that it can be made to roll across the surface to be painted.
  • The cylindrical body is usually made of a porous material, such as strands of wool or foam rubber, that makes it soft and subject to crushing and deformation during transport and storage. This may adversely affect the cylindrical shape of the roller insofar as its aspect when new and its use after it has been purchased.
  • In order to keep dirt and dust from soiling the cylindrical body of the roller during transport and storage, a simple plastic bag is normally used. This does not protect the roller from possible crushing and deformation.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The paint-roller sleeve proposed by this invention solves the aforementioned problem. Aside from protecting the roller from dirt and dust, it protects it from possible crushing and deformation.
  • To this end, the paint-roller sleeve consists of a cylindrical tubular body of approximately the same diameter as that of the maximum diameter of the paint roller. This tube is made of shrink wrap material, closed at both ends by flat ring-shaped disks formed by the partial shrinkage of the cylindrical walls of the ends of the tubular body. The tube includes straight circular ridges to make the sleeve more rigid.
  • The cylindrical tubular body is made of either a flat sheet rolled into a tube and soldered or glued at the ends or a closed tube.
  • In order to make it easier to open the sleeve and to extract the paint roller, the cylindrical wall of the tubular body has a stamped tab with two stress lines. The tab and the stress lines may be arranged longitudinally or transversally in the cylindrical wall.
  • In order to enhance the sales appeal of the sleeve and to include the technical specifications of the product, the cylindrical wall and ring-shaped disks of the sleeve include information that is printed directly on the walls or on suitable labels.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • In order to complete this description and to better convey some of the characteristics of the invention, a series of drawings have been included that correspond to a prototype of the product and illustrate the following characteristics:
    • Figure 1 is a perspective drawing of the sleeve. It holds a paint roller, the handle of which is seen protruding.
    • Figure 2 is a perspective drawing of the sleeve with the tab and stress lines arranged transversally.
    • Figure 3 is a perspective drawing of the sleeve with the tab and stress lines arranged longitudinally.
    PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
  • The figures indicate that the paint-roller sleeve consists of a cylindrical tubular body (1) made of a semi-rigid sheet inside of which the roller (2) is stored. Since the body of the cylinder of the paint roller (2) is made of a porous material such as foam rubber or strands of wool, the diameter of the body may vary depending on the pressure to which it is subjected. In order for the fibres or strands of the roller (2) to remain loose and expanded, the diameter of the cylindrical tubular body (1) is approximately equal to the maximum diameter of the roller (2).
  • The ends of the cylindrical tubular body (1) are closed by flat ring-shaped disks (3) formed by the partial shrinkage of the cylindrical walls of the ends of the tubular body (1), forming straight circular ridges (4) that make the sleeve more rigid.
  • The handle (6) attaches to the roller through the holes (5) in the centre of the ring-shaped disks (3).
  • The cylindrical tubular body (1) is made of either a flat sheet rolled into a tube and soldered or glued at the ends or a closed tube.
  • In order to make it easier to open the sleeve and to extract the paint roller (2), the cylindrical wall of the tubular body (1) has a protruding stamped tab (7) followed by two stress lines (8) to open the sleeve. The tab (7) and the stress lines (8) may be arranged transversally or longitudinally on the cylindrical wall.
  • The cylindrical wall of the tubular body (1) and the flat ring-shaped disks (3) are to contain sales information and technical data on the characteristics of the roller and its manufacturer. Said information may be printed directly on the walls of through labels (9) which may be attached to the outside or inside of the sleeve.

Claims (6)

  1. Paint-roller sleeve made from preformed shrink wrap material, normally consisting of a cylindrical tubular body, the diameter of which is approximately equal to the maximum diameter of the roller it is to contain, comprised of a semi-rigid sheet closed at both ends by flat ring-shaped disks formed by the partial shrinkage of the cylindrical walls of the ends of the tubular body, which include straight circular ridges that make the sleeve more rigid.
  2. Paint-roller sleeve, according to claim 1, characterised by the cylindrical tubular body consisting of a flat sheet rolled into a tube, the ends of which are soldered or glued longitudinally.
  3. Paint-roller sleeve, according to preceding claims, characterised by the cylindrical wall and ring-shaped disks of the sleeve including labels with printed information.
  4. Paint-roller sleeve, according to preceding claims, characterised by the tubular body having in its cylindrical wall a stamped tab followed by two stress lines to facilitate the opening of the sleeve.
  5. Paint-roller sleeve, according to claim 4, characterised by the tab and stress lines being arranged longitudinally in the cylindrical wall.
  6. Paint-roller sleeve, according to claim 4, characterised by the tab and stress lines being arranged transversally in the cylindrical wall.
