Abstract

Figure 00000001
The invention makes it possible to produce in a particularly economical manner steel strips (S) with a high hardness of their surface layers and correspondingly high wear resistance, by winding a coil (C) of a steel strip (S) containing a starting carbon content such that its Layers are arranged at a distance from one another, is subjected at a reaction temperature lying above the A c3 temperature of an annealing, in which a carburizing gas (RGas) is passed through the space between the individual layers of the coil (C) space, up to the edge layer of the steel strip (S) is achieved over the starting content by at least 0.1 wt .-% increased C content.
