Abstract

Plastic is injected into a ring-shaped channel (3) between a tooth forming wheel (1) with side cheeks (7) and a continuously circulating belt (2). At a point upstream from the plastic injection point (8) lost cores (14) are placed in at least some of the tooth-forming recesses (4) in the base of the wheel and become embedded in the plastic. Independent claims are also included for: (a) the process equipment which includes a forming wheel with side cheeks (7) and recesses (4) corresponding to the tooth (5) profile in the base of the forming wheel, an endless moving belt which wraps around part of the wheel and sits on the side cheeks to create a belt forming channel, a plastics injector at the channel inlet and upstream from this point a mechanism for placing lost cores in at least some of the recesses; and (b) a toothed belt (6) with a lost core in at least some teeth.
