Abstract

L'invention concerne un emballage irradié comportant une protection imperméable aux bactéries et aux moisissures prévue pour recevoir un logement alimentaire tubulaire. Ce logement alimentaire se compose d'une matrice de film en cellulose et d'eau dans une proportion comprise entre 9 et 40 % par poids, environ. Cet emballage a été irradié par un rayonnement suffisant pour empêcher la croissance de micro-organismes à l'intérieur de l'emballage pendant au moins quatre semaines et un rayonnement insuffisant pour réduire la pression d'éclatement du logement de plus de 12 % environ. Cette dose de rayonnement est généralement comprise entre 1 et 20 kilograys environ et de préférence entre 5 et 10 kilograys, environ. Ladite dose de rayonnement suffit à réduire le nombre de micro-organismes au sein de l'emballage de plus de 99 % et est généralement suffisante pour réduire le nombre de micro-organismes de plus de 99.9 %. De plus, cette irradiation est souvent à même de réduire le nombre de micro-organismes de 99.99 %. La réduction de la pression d'éclatement due à l'exposition aux rayonnements sera inférieure à 4 % de préférence. La croissance de micro-organismes, en particulier des moisissures, est empêchée à l'intérieur de l'emballage pendant au moins quatre heures, de préférence au moins six et, de préférence, pendant douze semaines, au moins. Dans le meilleur des cas, la croissance de micro-organismes à l'intérieur de l'emballage sera définitivement empêchée.
