Definitions

  • the invention relates to a filter tow for the production of cigarette filters with comparatively low filtration performance, the Switzerlandwiderstands- retention characteristic was chosen so that their use in full - flavored cigarettes with a degree of ventilation of more than 25% with acceptable draw resistance of the cigarette and filter cartridge weight is possible.
  • the Filter Tow Industry offers a variety of different tow types, which can essentially be described by the following characteristics: filament denier (dtex) 1.6-8.8; Total titer (dtex) 17,000 - 60,000; Crimp Index (%) 25 max. 38; Number of curling bends per cm: 10 max. 20;
  • the open draw resistance for the specified model cigarette at a ventilation rate of 35% is thus only 88 mmWS (instead of originally 100 mmWS).
  • Such a drop in cigarette pull resistance is clearly noticeable to the smoker and must therefore be compensated to maintain the consumer's smoking sensation by increasing the filter pull resistance (in the example above, to approx. 80 mmWS).
  • This increase in the filter pull resistance inevitably leads to an increase in the CO / tar ratio, since only the tar, but not the CO values are influenced by the filter pull resistance (increasing the draw resistance leads to a decrease in the tar values).
  • the retention of a filter is thus reduced by an increase of the filament titer.
  • Model calculations suggest that in future the filament titer must be raised by at least 0.5-1.5 dtex to meet the filtration performance requirements.
  • the currently available Filter Tow specifications (the average total titre of all specifications is approximately 35 ktex) are not suitable for covering the required minimum filament titer (retention) nor the required draft resistance range (calculation program Cable ⁇ by Rhodia Acetow GmbH). According to the prior art, this problem can be solved in a monoaceate filter only by a simultaneous drastic increase in the total titre to well over 45,000 dtex.
  • FR-A-1 309 738 describes a fiber bundle consisting of more than 5000 filaments.
  • the filament titer is between 0.055 tex and 1.77 tex.
  • the object of the invention is therefore to provide a filter tow, with which it is possible to produce filters with a CO / tar ratio of the filtration capacity of 1: 1.
  • the first solution according to the invention relates to a filter tow of crimped, endless cellulose acetate filaments, wherein the filaments form at least two contiguous fiber bundles of the same filament titre of at least 600 filaments, which differ in their filament titer from fiber bundle to fiber bundle by at least 1 dtex.
  • This solution provides in particular excellent results in terms of filtration performance, since it has surprisingly been found that a filter consisting of a produced in such an inhomogeneously distributed mixing tart, has a significantly lower tar retention than a product which was produced from a conventional tow having a uniform distribution of the film stock or a mixing tow having a homogeneous filament distribution (see Figure 3).
  • the second solution is realized by a filter tow, which has a more intensive and at the same time much finer crimping structure than the products customary today.
  • a filter tow is specified with a K Hurselindex of more than 40%, wherein the filaments have at least 22 crimps per cm filament length.
  • This filter tow meets in particular the highest requirements regarding the Filterzugwiderstandes. The values achieved are even exceeded when the crimp index is greater than 42%, the filaments preferably having more than 25 crimps per cm.
  • a filter tow with a filament titer of more than 3.33 dtex and a total titer of less than 44,000 dtex, preferably less than 40,000 dtex is proposed.
  • the limitation of the total titers leads to an even more acceptable consumption of Filter Tow.
  • the crimp index I x is a measure of the intensity of the crimp.
  • the test load is 25 N and the preload is 2.5 N.
  • the clamping length is 250 mm.
  • the crimp index is determined in a tensile test at a constant stretching speed of 300 mm / min on a G02 apparatus from Borgwaldt GmbH, Hamburg. Per Measurement 10 individual measurements are taken. The test is carried out under standard conditions: 20 ° C and 60% relative humidity (The method of measuring the crimping index is described in the cable program under the "Help" button).
  • Rhodia Acetow is the only manufacturer in the world to offer specifications under the designation SK, in a filament titer range of ⁇ 2.78 dtex, covering a crimp index range of more than 35% - maximum 38%.
  • the crimp index is a measure of the intensity of the crimping and thus of the position of the characteristic curve.
  • a characteristic is understood to mean the power range of a filter Tows, which indicates in which draw resistance range a filter tow with a given diameter and filter rod length can be processed under normal processing conditions.
  • the characteristic for this work area describes the relation between draw resistance and weight.
  • characteristic curve and crimp index is given as an example of a filter tow of the type 2.1 Y 35 HK (filament titer: 2.33 dtex, total titer: 38,900, cross-sectional shape of the filaments: Y, crimp index: 32%) and 2.1 Y 35 SK (Filament titer: 2.33dtex, total titer: 38,900, cross-sectional shape of the filaments: Y, crimp index: 36%) are shown in Figure 1.
  • the solution of the above object is achieved by producing a filter tow having a crimp index of more than 40%, preferably more than 42%. This index is mandatory to cover the corresponding draw resistance range.
  • the crimp index is influenced on the one hand by the frequency and on the other hand by the amplitude of the curling arcs.
  • a measure of the fineness of the crimping is the number of curling arches. Typical values today are 10 to max. 20 crimps per cm filament length.
  • the above-cited SK - tows typically have 15 to 18 curls per cm.
  • the inventive filter tow therefore has an index of more than 40% in the filaments on average more than 22, preferably more than 25, curling arcs per cm filament length.
  • Such a filter tow can be processed on conventional filter rod machines to cigarette filters, which are at a comparable Switzerlandwiderstandscited as filters, which were made from today's usual specifications.
  • Figure 2 shows the working range of a tow of the type 4.5 Y 35 (filament denier 5.0 dtex, total titer: 38,900 dtex) according to the invention compared to a conventional tow type 3.0 Y 35 (filament denier 3.33 dtex, total titer: 38,900 dtex). or a conventional 4.5 Y 55 and a conventional 4.5 Y 35.
  • the filter tow band contains, before the crimping process, the following components which soften the acetate filaments: water, acetone, and avivage components. It is known that these softening components have a lasting effect on the crimping process.
  • US 5,225,277 describes the effect of acetone and ribbon temperatures on the crimp stability. The method described there can be used to produce products with up to 19.7 crimps per cm. About the Köselindex no statement is made in this document. From the data given there (draw resistance, tow specification and machine settings), however, a crimp index can be estimated with the help of the mentioned cable program, which is definitely below 35%.
  • JP OS 56-53223 describes the effects of steaming the belt before entering the crimping machine. Products with 16 crimps per cm are described. There is no information about the crimp index. It has now surprisingly been found that a hyperfine crimp can then be produced effectively and without too much filament damage if the sum of the softening Components at the time of crimping process exceeds the value of 25% by weight. It does not matter in which concentrations the individual components are present. The sum of the individual components is determined experimentally gravimetrically by drying a sample at 150 ° C (20 min), which is pulled directly after the crimping machine.
  • one of the solutions according to the invention relates to a filter tow with a so-called mixed titer.
  • DE 29 16 062 describes such a filter tow and the cigarette filter produced therefrom. In contrast to the filter tow according to the invention there is provided for a uniform distribution of the filaments as possible. (See column 2, lines 22ff in DE 29 16 062). This has in the embodiment according to DE 29 16 062 the effect that reduces the material use of the filter to be produced at the same draw resistance, but significantly increase the retention of the filter due to the uniform distribution of the filaments.
  • the object of the invention described herein is also to save material, but at the same time, the retention of the filter tow produced by the filter tow should be significantly smaller than that achieved when corresponding filters are made from a filter tow with a uniform filament titer.
  • This is achieved when the product according to the invention ensures that the filaments form continuous fiber bundles of the same filament titre of at least 600 filaments, preferably more than 1000 filaments, which in their filament titer from fiber bundle to fiber bundle at least 1 dtex, preferably more than 1, 5 dtex differ.
  • the filter tow contains at least two, preferably more than five, regions of filament bundles of the same filament titre.
  • the advantage of this embodiment is that the filament bundles of the same Filamenttiters agglomerate in the filter and thus form areas low, respectively high draw resistance. Accordingly, a filter made from such a compound tow has similar draw resistance and retention properties as described, for example, in JP2000000085 for a classic core-shell filter. There are no restrictions on the crimp index and the number of crimps per cm for this filter tow. In a However, the preferred embodiment of the invention produces a product having a crimp index of greater than 33%, preferably greater than 35%.
  • a spinning solution with a concentration of 30% by weight of cellulose acetate in acetone is prepared, filtered and then pressed through nozzles.
  • the water content of the spinning solution is 1.5%.
  • the spinnerets are selected in terms of hole number, bore size and number so that ultimately a tow of the type 4.5 Y 55 is produced.
  • the Avivage dosage is adjusted so that an oil level of 0.5% results.
  • the tape is crimped with a conventional stuffer box crimping machine to form a filter tow having a crimp index of 30.5% upon drying and packaging.
  • the sum of the softening components is 22.3%.
  • the tearing force of the tow is 143 N.
  • the number of crimps is 15.8 / cm filament length.
  • the product is processed on a conventional filter rod machine KDF2 / AF2 Hauni, Hamburg, to filter rods with a length of 126 mm and a diameter of 7.8 mm. Fluffing during processing of the product is inconspicuous and is, calculated on a consumption of a ton of material, 0.5 g / tonne.
  • the characteristic curve of the product, shown in Figure 2 covers a resistance range of 310 - 460 mmWS.
  • a spinning solution with a concentration of 30% by weight of cellulose acetate in acetone is prepared, filtered and then forced through nozzles.
  • the water content of the spinning solution is 3%.
  • the spinnerets are selected in terms of hole number, bore size and number so that ultimately a filter tow of the type 4.5 Y 35 is produced.
  • the Avivage dosage is adjusted to result in an oil level of 1.3%.
  • the resulting tape is crimped with a conventional stuffer box crimping machine to form a filter tow having a crimp index of 43.5% upon drying and packaging.
  • the sum of the softening components is 29%.
  • the tearing force of the tow is determined to be 111 N.
  • the number of crimps is 26 / cm filament length.
  • the product is processed on a conventional filter rod machine KDF2 / AF2 Hauni to filter rods with a length of 126 mm and a diameter of 7.8 mm. Fluffing during processing of the product is inconspicuous and amounts to 2.8 g / ton, extrapolated to one ton of material.
  • the characteristic curve of the product shown in Figure 2, covers a resistance range 298 - 505 mmWS.
