Abstract

Fire extinguishing post, more in particular intended to be placed along a road of the public road system, formed by a housing or casing with fire extinguishing equipment, such as a fire hose reel, extinghuishing means, protection means, telephone apparatus, and such like, characterized in that the housing or casing is divided in at least a first section and a second section, with the first section only containing the device or those devices which are intended to be used by the general public, and with the second section only containing the further fire extinguishing devices which are intended to be used by the professional emergency assistant.

Description

  • The present invention relates to a fire extinguishing post, more in particular intended to be placed along a road of the public road system, formed by a housing or casing with fire extinguishing equipment, such as for instance a fire hose reel, extinghuishing means, protection means, telephone apparatus, and such like.
  • Such a fire extinguishing post is generally known. Such fire extinguishing posts are especially applied in tunnels.
  • With the known fire extinguishing post it is the intention that the public, for instance in the event of a fire in a tunnel, gains access to the contents of the fire extinguishing post and thereby uses the fire hose reel to make a first start with the extinguishment of the fire while awaiting the arrival of the fire services.
With the known fire extinguishing post the housing or casing often contains several devices for the extinguishment of a fire, including fire extinguishing devices which are intended to be used only by qualified professional emergency assistants, and not by the general public.
When there is a panic situation, it often occurrs that the public cannot determine quickly enough which devices or equipment in the fire extinguishing post it has to use. This often leads to the situation in which'the public in the panic situation thereupon decides to give up an attempt to extinguish the fire, because it cannot make sense of the contents of the fire extinguishing post .
  • The invention aims to obviate this drawback of the known fire extinguishing post. More in particular, the invention aims to design a fire extinguishing post in such a way, that the public, in the event of a fire, can determine in a simple manner which device out of the fire extinguishing post it has to use, such as an easy to handle fire hose reel.
The fire extinguishing post according to the invention to that end is characterized in that the housing or casing is divided in at least a first section and a second section, with the first section only containing the device or those devices which are intended to be used by the general public, and with the second section only containing the further fire extinguishing devices which are intended to be used by the professional emergency assistant.
  • According to a characteristic of the fire extinguishing post according to the invention, the housing or casing is provided with means by which the public can gain access to the first section, while these means according to another characteristic of the fire extinguishing post according to the invention are formed by a door.
  • According to a further characteristic of the fire extinguishing post according to the invention the door, completely or partly, is formed by a transparant material, such that the contents of the space behind the door are visible from the outside.
  • According to another characteristic of the fire extinguishing post according to the invention the fire extinguising devices which are intended to be used by the public comprise of a fire hose reel and/or a hand fire extinguishing means.
  • With the fire extinguishing post according to the invention it is to the public, that, in the event of a fire, goes towards the fire extinguishing post, almost at once clear that it has to use the fire hose reel for the extinguishing of the fire, because the public only finds the hose reel present when opening the door. It is possible to provide in the first section further hand extinguishing means. The other fire extinguishing means in the fire extinguishing post, which are intended to be used only by the professional emergency assistant, are not visible to the public and cannot distract or otherwise confuse the public.
Because the door of the fire extinguishing post has been made out of a transparant material it is clear to the approaching public that it has to use the fire hose reel.
  • In a favourable embodiment of the fire extinguishing post according to the invention the hose reel is mounted or suspended on the inner side of the door and means are present with the help of which the fire hose reel is put into operation by the opening of the door. In this way the public immediately finds the hose reel when opening the door, while the hose reel is set ready for use.
  • The invention will now be described further with reference to the drawings of an example of an embodiment.
  • Figure 1 shows a side view in section of a fire extinguishing post such as is built into the wall of a tunnel or elsewhere, while at the front side a person is present.
Figures 2, 3 and 4 show front views of an embodiment of the fire extinguishing post according to the invention.
  • As can be seen in figures 2, 3 and 4 the fire extinguishing post according to the invention is formed by a housing or casing 1 with several pieces of fire extinguishing equipment 2. The housing or casing 1 is divided in at least a first section 4 and a second section 5. It is possible that the first section 4 and the second section 5 are separated by a wall. This however is not necessary. In the example of an embodiment shown in the figures the first section 4 and the second section 5 are not separated by a wall or any other separating means in the housing 1. The first section 4 only contains the device 2 or devices for fire extinguishing 2 which are intended to be used by the general public, such as a nozzle mounted to a fire hose reel 3 and any hand fire extinguishing means. The second section 5 contains the further fire extinguishing devices 2, such as further extinguishing means, protection means, telephone apparatus, and such like and which are intended to be used by the professional emergency assistant.
The first section 4 of the housing can be open to the outside. It is also possible that the first section 4, as in this example of an embodiment, is closed. In this example of an embodiment the housing 1 at the first section 4 is provided with a door 7.
This door 7 is closed, however not locked.
Figure 2 shows the door 7 closed; in the figures 3 and 4 the door is open. As can be seen in figure 2, the door in part is formed by a transparant material 8. In this manner the public can see from the outside the fire hose 3 reel in the space behind the door 7.
  • As can be seen in figure 4, the fire hose reel 3 is suspended on the inner side 9 of the door 7.
In a favourable manner means are provided with the help of which the fire hose reel 3 is put into operation by the opening of the door 7.
  • In the event of a fire the public that is approaching the fire extinguishing post can see from the outside in a simple manner where the fire hose reel 3 is suspended. A person from the public opens the door 3 on the inner side 9 of which the hose reel is suspended. The nozzle of the fire hose reel 3 only has to be taken up for the extinguishing of the starting fire. With the fire extinguishing post according to the invention it is to a large extent prevented that a person from the public gets confused because he sees all kinds of fire extinguishing devices and means in the housing. He finds at first sight only those devices that he needs.
  • As can further be seen in figures 2, 3 and 4, the housing or casing 1 has a second section 5. As is mentioned above it is possible that the first section 4 and the second section 5 are separated by a wall. This however is not necessary. It is also possible that the first section 4 and the second section 5 are not separated from each other by a wall or any other separating means. The second section 5 of the housing or casing 1 is provided with a door 10 with the help of which the professional emergency assistant can gain access to the second section 5. This door is provided with locking means.
The door 10 can be formed in such a way, that it has the appearance of a wall of the housing or casing 1 which cannot be opened from the outside. In this manner it is prevented that the public that approaches the housing 1 is distracted and erroneously wants to open the door 10.
The door 10 preferably is formed by a non-transparant material, such that the contents of the space behind the door are not visible from the outside.
  • Further an embodiment is possible in which the door 10 can only be opened after the door 3 has been opened. In another further embodiment means can be provided with the help of which the door 3 or both doors 3, 10 can be opened by the operation of a push-button.
