Definitions
- the invention relates to a reversible wristwatch comprising a first box enclosing elements adapted to control a first display and a second box enclosing elements adapted to control a second display, said first and second boxes each having a bottom and being placed back to back.
- the watch described in the patent CH 646 569 consists of two parts fixed to each other and each constituting one of the faces of the reversible watch. These two parts form a single sealed box which is journalled along its axis six o'clock in the afternoon on two bars each receiving one end of a bracelet.
- the box has two lateral covers hinged at one of their ends on the box, covering in service position the side edges of the watch case.
- the respective frames of the two parts of the watch are fixed together by means of screws.
- both parts of the watch need batteries to function, it is difficult to see how to access these batteries without first unscrewing all the screws that bind these two parts, which is not easily achievable by an ordinary user.
- the patent US 5,479,381 discloses a reversible watch having at least two opposite faces and at least one movement.
- the caseband is attached to an extensible bracelet by means of horns so that the wearer of the watch can pass from one face to the other without having to leave the watch of the wrist.
- the description refers to movements mounted in a single box and therefore there is no need to find a solution for attaching two separate boxes, themselves attached to a bracelet.
- the patent FR 497'082 describes a two-sided pocket watch with a middle-piece in which two boxes of shows. The presence of the shaped piece necessarily contributes to increasing the diameter of the watch. It will also be noted that the two-sided watch described in this prior document does not correspond to the preamble above since it is not a wristwatch.
- Reverso also known under the name "Reverso” (registered trademark) a reversible watch made of a single housing engaged on a cradle support provided with slides, the support being in turn linked to the bracelet.
- the proposed construction leads to a watch of rather large thickness and generally provided with a mechanical movement only, because the use of an electric movement would require, for the replacement of the battery, either to open the box, or a hatch side stack if both sides of the watch were each equipped with a display.
- a watch of this kind is described, in its simplest embodiment, in the patent FR 712 868 .
- the state of the art in the field of reversible wristwatches offers, on the one hand, one-box watches and, on the other hand, two-box watches.
- the first category has the disadvantage of a generally high cost, because of the special construction of the double-sided box and movements with double-sided display if necessary, as well as difficulties for the replacement of the battery in the case of movements electric.
- the second category illustrated by the patent CH 680 329 In particular, the disadvantages are a considerable thickness of the assembly and complicated mounting of the boxes on a common support.
- the present invention relates to a watch of the second category and aims to create a watch having a moderate thickness and allowing both a manufacturing at a moderate cost and good comfort of use.
- a watch of the second category aims to create a watch having a moderate thickness and allowing both a manufacturing at a moderate cost and good comfort of use.
- it is a question of creating a construction allowing easy replacement of the battery by the user, without the aesthetics of the watch and the cost of manufacture being affected significantly. .
- each of the two boxes comprises at least one fixing element arranged to be removably attached to an element corresponding attachment of the other box, for securing the boxes to each other in a position where their respective bottoms are adjacent.
- each of the two boxes can advantageously be sealed by itself and be designed from a common type of single-sided watch case, to which it is sufficient to add the fasteners to the other boxes. These may be hidden in the bottom region of the boxes or made near the edges of the boxes in a form of little or no visible.
- the bottom of the box in question may include an ordinary battery door, which will be hidden by the other box but will remain easily accessible to the user through that it can easily separate the boxes by disassembly of their mutual fixation. The replacement of a battery will then be done as in an ordinary watch.
- the fixing elements of each of the boxes comprise horns traversed by bars, the latter serving both means for fixing the first box on the second and means for fixing each of the ends. presents the bracelet to the assembly formed by said first and second boxes.
- the fastening elements may be arranged on the bottom of the box, for example in the form of dovetail type sliding assembly elements.
- the two boxes fixed to each other form a mobile housing, which is pivotally and slidably mounted on a support attached to a bracelet, the support having two parallel side bars between which the mobile housing takes place in two mutually reversed use positions, positions in which two opposite side faces of the mobile housing extend along said bars.
- An advantageous arrangement in this case consists in that each bar of the support is provided with a hinge pin, which is engaged in a slide of the corresponding lateral face of the mobile housing, and in that the said slide is formed by juxtaposition two recesses L-shaped profile, each formed along an edge of the bottom of each box.
- Each pin may be integral with a removable part retained by means of a bracelet attachment bar, so that the user can easily remove the mobile housing from the support to separate the two boxes, for example to change one. from them or to replace a battery.
- the reversible wristwatch has a first box 1 enclosing elements (not shown) able to control a first display 3 and a second box 2 also enclosing elements (not shown) adapted to control a second display (not shown, because found under the box 2).
- These first and second boxes are placed back to back so as to display the displays on either side of the assembly thus formed.
- the display 3 shown here is an analog display but could be of another form, digital for example.
- the not shown display and affecting the box 2 can be, optionally, digital or analog.
- the boxes 1 and 2 can display the time, for example the local time for the first and the time for another time zone for the second. However, we could display something other than time, for example a time interval (chronograph function) or a message (pager function). It will therefore be understood that various combinations are possible.
- each of the boxes 1 and 2 comprises fixing elements in the form of horns, referenced 4 in the first embodiment of the figure 1 and referenced 5 in the second execution of figures 2 and 3 these horns being traversed by removable bars 6 and 7 for the first execution and by removable bars 8 and 9 for the second execution.
- these bars serve a double function: they serve firstly means for fixing the first box 1 on the second box 2 and, secondly, means for fixing the each of the ends that presents the bracelet to the assembly formed by the first and second boxes.
- the ends 10 and 11 of the bracelet 14 of the first embodiment ( figure 1 ) are fixed to the assembly formed by the boxes 1 and 2 by the bars 6 and 7 respectively.
- the ends 12 and 13 of bracelet 15 of the second embodiment ( figures 2 and 3 ) are fixed to the assembly formed by the boxes 1 and 2 by the bars 9 and 8 respectively.
- the first embodiment is illustrated at figure 1 .
- the reversible watch comprises a first box 1 with its display 3 and a time setting command 80 and a second box 2 whose display is not apparent, this second box having its own time setting command 81.
- the two boxes 1 and 2 are arranged back to back, so that their respective bottoms 85 and 86 are adjacent.
- the first box 1 comprises at six o'clock a pair of horns 16 and 17 and at noon another pair of horns 20 and 21.
- the second box 2 comprises at six o'clock a pair of horns 18 and 19 and at noon another pair of horns 22 and 23. Each of these horns is provided with a bore respectively referenced 24, 25, 28, 29, 26, 27, 30 and 31.
- each bore is adjusted to the diameter of the bars 6 and 7.
- Each horn of the first box 1 is juxtaposed with a corresponding horn of the second box 2. This is how the horn 16 takes place next to the horn 18, the horn 17 next to the horn 19, the horn 20 (not shown) next to the horn 22 and the horn 21 next to the horn 23.
- the corresponding horns are juxtaposed, that is to say when the boxes 1 and 2 are placed back to back, is created at six o'clock a housing 32 in which takes place the end 11 of the bracelet 14, and at noon a housing 33 in which takes place the end 10 of the bracelet 14.
- the ends 11 and 10 of the bracelet 14 are provided with a bore respectively referenced 34 and 35. These holes 34 and 35 are arranged in alignment with the drilling of the horns to receive the bars 7 and 6 inserted by sliding through the horns, so that once introduced, these bars fix the first box on the second and the bracelet 14 on the assembly thus formed.
- box 1 can also be mounted on box 2 by rotating it 180 ° in its plane. We would then have a wrong fitting not suitable for a reversible wristwatch. This is due to the symmetrical arrangement of the horns of the first box 1 with respect to the horns of the second box 2. To avoid this we can break this symmetry by moving by example the horns 16 and 17 of the box 1 to the outside of said box and the horns 18 and 19 of the box 2 to the inside of said box. At this time the box 1 can be mounted only in one direction on the box 2.
- the second embodiment is illustrated on the figures 2 and 3 .
- the first and second boxes 1 and 2 comprise at four o'clock and four horns 5, each horn of the first box being superimposed on and nested in a horn of the second box when these boxes are placed back to back.
- three dwellings are created, namely dwellings 36, 37 and 38 at six o'clock, and dwellings 39, 40 and 41 at noon.
- the housings 36, 37 and 38 takes place the end 13 of the bracelet 15, this end being divided into three sections 42, 43 and 44.
- In the housings 39, 40 and 41 takes place the end 12 of the bracelet 15, this end being divided into three sections 45,46 and 47.
- the first box 1 has at six o'clock and in the order a first male horn 48 provided with a bore 49 and nested in a first female horn 50 that has the second box 2, second 51 and third 52 female horns respectively nested on second 53 and third 54 male horns that presents the second box 2, the male horns being each provided with a bore respectively referenced 55 and 56, and a fourth male horn 57 provided with a bore 58 and nested in a fourth female horn
- the first box 1 presents at noon and in the order a first female horn 60 fitted on a first male horn 61 that presents the second box 2, this horn 61 being provided with a bore 62, second 63 and third 64 male horns each provided with a bore respectively referenced 65 and 66 and nested respectively in second 67 and third 68 female horns s that presents the second box 2, and a fourth female horn 69 fitted on a fourth male horn 70 that has the second box 2, this horn 70 being provided with a bore
- the three sections 42, 43 and 44 of the end 13 of the bracelet 15 are provided with a hole respectively referenced 72, 73 and 74 and the three sections 45, 46 and 47 of the end 12 of the bracelet 15 are provided with a hole respectively referenced 75, 76 and 77. These holes are arranged in alignment with the holes of the horns to receive the removable bars 8 and 9 which fix the first box 1 to the second 2 and the bracelet 15 to the assembly thus formed.
- the box 1 can be mounted only one way on the box 2 and it is therefore not possible to rotate it 180 ° in its plane and then mount it on the box 1. This is due to the configuration and alternation of male and female horns. Indeed, turning the box 1 in a wrong direction the male horns 63 and 64 of the box 1 would meet other male horns, in this case the male horns 53 and 54 of the box 2.
- the execution mode shown in figure 2 reveals in the bottom 86 of the box 2 a cover 82 closing a battery door 83. As this cover can exceed the level of the back of the box 2, there is provided in the bottom 85 of the box 1 a recess 84 as shown on the figures 2 and 3 , this depression being intended to receive an unseen battery door cover and being in the bottom of the box 1.
- the present invention makes it possible to offer an extremely thin reversible watch, especially if two boxes with a small thickness are chosen, as for example marketed under the name Swatch Skin (registered trademark).
- bracelet 14 or 15 of the reversible watch can be an extensible bracelet as described in the document US 5,479,381 or a leather strap with a pivoting buckle, as described in the document DE 35 12 369 .
- first and second boxes 1 and 2 are equipped with power batteries
- the arrangement proposed by the invention allows easy exchange of these batteries. It is sufficient to remove the strips to separate the boxes and have access to the battery door.
- the horns on one side of the watch may further be arranged to form a hinge, so that it is sufficient to remove only the bar on the other side to spread the boxes and access each battery door.
- the reversible wristwatch comprises a reversible mobile housing 100 formed by assembling a first box 101, enclosing a first watch movement provided with a first display 103, for example of analog type, and a second box 102 comprising a second watch movement provided with a second display 104, for example of digital type.
- the boxes 101 and 102 have a general square or rectangular shape and are arranged back to back, so that their displays 103 and 104 respectively appear on the two opposite faces of the mobile housing 100.
- the two displays can be arranged to display the time, but one or the other could display something else, for example a timed time, an alarm time, data stored, a message received by radio or other alphanumeric information, or combinations of such elements.
- the mobile housing 100 is pivotally and slidably mounted on a rigid support 105 attached to both ends 106 and 107 of a bracelet 108 which may be non-reversible.
- This support is shown in detail at figure 6 and comprises two parallel bars 110 connected by a bottom plate 112, so that the support 105 has a cradle shape longitudinally inside which the mobile housing 100 takes place.
- Each bar 110 comprises horns 113 provided with holes 114 for to be attached to the bracelet 108 in the same manner as in the previous example, that is to say by means of two removable bars 115 also passing through holes 109 ends 106 and 107 of the bracelet.
- Each bar 110 has a through hole 116 opening into an inner vertical face 117 of the bar, facing the opposite bar 110.
- Each hole 116 is intended for the passage of a cylindrical pin 118 integral with a removable piece 119 which is housed in a recess 120 of the bar 110, while the pin 118 engaged through the hole 116 emerges from the face 117 of the bar for form a pivot joint.
- Each piece 119 has the same shape on the outside as the horns 113 and, like them, has a hole 121 intended to be traversed by the bar 115, so that this bar holds the piece 119 in position in the bar 110 as can be seen in the figure 4 (e) .
- the inner plate 112 of the support 105 does not extend over the entire length of the bars 110, but has an edge 122 set back a vertical through the holes 116, to clear the space at below trunnions 118 for a reason that will appear further.
- each box 101 and 102 are shown so as to show their respective bottoms 125 and 126, provided with battery traps 127 and 128 to allow easy replacement of the battery feeding the watch movement.
- a control ring 129 is provided on the box 101, as well as a control ring 130 on the box 102, in the usual position.
- each box On its opposite side to the crown, each box has a small recess 131, 132 which, when the boxes are assembled as seen in FIG. figure 4 , allows the user to insert a fingernail under the crown to pull it.
- two longitudinal recesses 133 having an L-shaped profile and extending symmetrically over most of the length of the side of the box.
- Two similar longitudinal recesses 134 are formed along two opposite edges of the bottom 126 of the second box 102.
- the bottom 125 of the first box 101 is traversed entirely, in its zone. central, by a wide groove 135 having a dovetail profile.
- the bottom 126 of the second box 102 has its central zone a wide rib 136 having a dovetail profile which corresponds to that of the groove 135 in order to slidably fit into it when the boxes are placed back to back, in the position shown in figure 6 .
- the groove 135 and the rib 136 constitute elements for directly fixing a box to the other without interposition of an intermediate element.
- a pawl may be formed by a ball-head pin mounted on a spring.
- the figure 4 shows five successive positions (a) to (e) of the mobile housing 100 when a user returns it.
- the position (a) is a first use position where the first box 101 has its analog display 103.
- By lifting the left edge 145 of the housing it overcomes the retention of the pawls 144 and puts the housing in the inclined position (b) by pivoting on the pins 118.
- the straight edge 146 of the housing is then lowered between the bars 110 of the support 105, in the area where the central plate 112 does not extend.
- the edge 146 of the casing is then higher than the plate 112.
- the casing 100 is then pivoted to the horizontal position (d) and then slid horizontally to the left above the plate 112 to bring it to the second use position (e) in which the box 102 is at the top and has its digital display 104.
- the pawls 144 are then engaged again in the slide 140 to stabilize the mobile housing 100.
- the pins 118 are not in the vicinity of one end of the bars 110 of the support, because the removable parts 119 which carry them can not transmit a force between the bracelet and the support and would not be properly guided to the end of the bar. It is conceivable, however, variants where the pins 118 are close to the end of the bar to abut against one end of the slide 140 in the two positions of use of the housing. For example, each pin could be provided at the end of a screw passing through the bar.
- the watch represented in Figures 4 to 7 could further include stopping members to prevent the movable housing from moving to the left beyond the positions (a) and (e) of the figure 4 .
- the ends 142 and 143 of the slide 140 could be deepened or widened locally for the pawls 144 to engage more deeply.
- Another solution consists in providing at least one protruding stop at the left end of each face 117 of the bars 110, to serve as a stop for the mobile housing.
- Such a stop may also be formed by an element connecting the left ends of the two bars to form a U-shaped rigid frame. The plate 122 could then be removed.
- the reverse arrangement can be provided, that is to say a sliding housing in a direction parallel to the bracelet, without departing from the scope of the invention.
- the horns 113 of the support 105 may be replaced by horns arranged in the extension of the bars 110, or by two handles connecting the ends of the two bars and each attached to one end of the bracelet, the support then having the shape of a rectangular frame.
- These loops may also be provided with several horns similar to the horns 113 shown in figures 4 and 6 .

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a reversible wristwatch comprising a first box enclosing elements adapted to control a first display and a second box enclosing elements adapted to control a second display, said first and second boxes each having a bottom and being placed back to back.
Several reversible watches have already been proposed that more or less meet the definition given above.
The present invention relates to a watch of the second category and aims to create a watch having a moderate thickness and allowing both a manufacturing at a moderate cost and good comfort of use. In addition, in the case of watches with batteries, it is a question of creating a construction allowing easy replacement of the battery by the user, without the aesthetics of the watch and the cost of manufacture being affected significantly. .
For this purpose, there is provided a reversible wristwatch of the kind indicated in the preamble, characterized in that each of the two boxes comprises at least one fixing element arranged to be removably attached to an element corresponding attachment of the other box, for securing the boxes to each other in a position where their respective bottoms are adjacent.
It is thus possible to dispense with any intermediate element such as a support disposed between the two boxes, which substantially reduces the thickness of the assembly and simplifies the final assembly. Each of the two boxes can advantageously be sealed by itself and be designed from a common type of single-sided watch case, to which it is sufficient to add the fasteners to the other boxes. These may be hidden in the bottom region of the boxes or made near the edges of the boxes in a form of little or no visible. In addition, if one or each of the boxes must contain an electric battery, the bottom of the box in question may include an ordinary battery door, which will be hidden by the other box but will remain easily accessible to the user through that it can easily separate the boxes by disassembly of their mutual fixation. The replacement of a battery will then be done as in an ordinary watch.
In a particular embodiment, the fixing elements of each of the boxes comprise horns traversed by bars, the latter serving both means for fixing the first box on the second and means for fixing each of the ends. presents the bracelet to the assembly formed by said first and second boxes.
Otherwise, the fastening elements may be arranged on the bottom of the box, for example in the form of dovetail type sliding assembly elements.
In another particular embodiment, the two boxes fixed to each other form a mobile housing, which is pivotally and slidably mounted on a support attached to a bracelet, the support having two parallel side bars between which the mobile housing takes place in two mutually reversed use positions, positions in which two opposite side faces of the mobile housing extend along said bars. An advantageous arrangement in this case consists in that each bar of the support is provided with a hinge pin, which is engaged in a slide of the corresponding lateral face of the mobile housing, and in that the said slide is formed by juxtaposition two recesses L-shaped profile, each formed along an edge of the bottom of each box. Each pin may be integral with a removable part retained by means of a bracelet attachment bar, so that the user can easily remove the mobile housing from the support to separate the two boxes, for example to change one. from them or to replace a battery.

To summarize, only two bars are sufficient both to bind together the two boxes removably and to attach the ends of the bracelet to the assembly thus formed. To the knowledge of the applicant, such an arrangement has never been proposed, an arrangement which considerably simplifies the assembly of the watch as regards both the time spent on this assembly and the number of pieces to be put in place. artwork.
Two embodiments of the invention in which the principles stated above are put into practice will now be examined in detail.

The first box 1 has at six o'clock and in the order a first

On remarquera enfin que la présente invention permet d'offrir une montre réversible extrêmement mince surtout si l'on choisit deux boîtes présentant une faible épaisseur, comme commercialisées par exemple sous le nom de Swatch Skin (marque déposée).Finally, it will be noted that the present invention makes it possible to offer an extremely thin reversible watch, especially if two boxes with a small thickness are chosen, as for example marketed under the name Swatch Skin (registered trademark).
In the case where the first and

Les mêmes opérations sont répétées pour passer de la position (e) à la position (a).The same operations are repeated to move from position (e) to position (a).
