Claims (9)
- A device for pneumatically operating a tool (8), specifically pneumatic pliers, comprising a cylinder (3) having pneumatically actuated pistons (5, 34) arranged in series for generating a translatory force, each piston bearing against the cylinder wall via a piston guide band (23) and having a piston rod (6) guided and sealed with respect to the following piston (5, 34) in an appertaining cylinder cover (13), and a structural part (35) functionally connected to the last piston (34) for operating the tool,
characterised in that a seal (25) facing the following piston (5, 34) is disposed in the peripheral portion of the front face of each piston rod (6). - The device of claim 1, wherein each piston rod (6) is formed so as to extend into the following piston (5, 34).
- The device of claim 1 or 2, wherein the seal of the piston rod (6) with respect to the appertaining cylinder cover (13) is a lip seal (24).
- The device of claim 1 or 2, wherein the seal of the piston rod (6) with respect to the appertaining cylinder cover (13) is a sealing wiper ring (24).
- The device of claim 3, wherein the seal (25) between the front face of the piston rod (6) and the following piston (5, 34) is an O-ring.
- The device of any preceding claim, wherein the structural part (35) for operating the tool includes a wedge for transmitting the translatory force to a pair of pliers or jaw type members riding on the wedge faces.
- The device of claim 6, wherein the structural part (35) for operating the tool is screwed into said last piston (5, 34) and is guided within a pliers holder (37).
- The device of any preceding claim, wherein the tool head (38) is replaceably connected to the cylinder (3).
