Claims (9)

  1. A device for pneumatically operating a tool (8), specifically pneumatic pliers, comprising a cylinder (3) having pneumatically actuated pistons (5, 34) arranged in series for generating a translatory force, each piston bearing against the cylinder wall via a piston guide band (23) and having a piston rod (6) guided and sealed with respect to the following piston (5, 34) in an appertaining cylinder cover (13), and a structural part (35) functionally connected to the last piston (34) for operating the tool,
    characterised in that a seal (25) facing the following piston (5, 34) is disposed in the peripheral portion of the front face of each piston rod (6).
  2. The device of claim 1, wherein each piston rod (6) is formed so as to extend into the following piston (5, 34).
  3. The device of claim 1 or 2, wherein the seal of the piston rod (6) with respect to the appertaining cylinder cover (13) is a lip seal (24).
  4. The device of claim 1 or 2, wherein the seal of the piston rod (6) with respect to the appertaining cylinder cover (13) is a sealing wiper ring (24).
  5. The device of claim 3, wherein the seal (25) between the front face of the piston rod (6) and the following piston (5, 34) is an O-ring.
  6. The device of any preceding claim, wherein the structural part (35) for operating the tool includes a wedge for transmitting the translatory force to a pair of pliers or jaw type members riding on the wedge faces.
  7. The device of claim 6, wherein the structural part (35) for operating the tool is screwed into said last piston (5, 34) and is guided within a pliers holder (37).
