Definitions
- the invention relates to a for printing with coldset offset printing inks Coldset offset rotary printing process suitable, coated Roll print paper.
- the roll printing paper described in EP-A-0 785 307 is a so-called. Matt quality. It is detailed in this older document that the Achieving the printability and printability of a coated roll printing paper in the Coldset offset processes have special requirements regarding the paper Wetting or penetration behavior towards water and its Color recording speed are to be set. These are properties that pass through a satin finish on smoothing from 1000 to 1600 sec Bekk as it is for the manufacture usual smooth paper is required, sometimes very disadvantageous be influenced, which is why it was first successful to delete a To provide matt quality for the coldset process.
- EP-A-777 014 speaks inter alia: also this patent underlying problem and suggests a certain grain size for a coating pigment, which contributes to improvements in the printing result different printing processes. This is done on the basis of test papers set out whose stroke contains starch as the only binder. So far one Cold test suitability is addressed, these do not indicate the desired gloss and smoothness values.
- the invention is therefore based on the object, a deleted To provide web printing paper for the coldset process, which a sufficient gloss for more demanding printed products, in particular Advertising inserts and the like., And is inexpensive to manufacture.
- the matt paper quality described in EP-A-0785 307 for the coldset process is primarily measured by its water absorption capacity the wetting edge angle of a drop of water or by determining the Characterized penetration behavior.
- Another important property of Paper which, however, can be dependent on the press to a certain extent the ink path behavior of the paper. It was already in EP-A-0 785 307 indicated, there on page 12, lines 19-23, that the two mentioned properties are mutually dependent in a way, so that a Paper is still suitable for coldset printing, if the values for the water absorption capacity and the color loss in move their opposite limits, so that here a certain Compensation of the properties seems to take place. The reasons for this are not yet known.
- the possible and preferred limits for the smoothness values to be observed have already been specified.
- the water intake after the Emco test after one second should be in the range of 85-25%, preferably in the range of 70-30%.
- the color path impact test should have a value of 1.1 to 0.25, preferably give a value of 0.8 to 0.3.
- the gloss measured according to Lehmann at 75 ° should amount to at least 25%, but preferably between 30 and 55% a sufficient glossiness of the paper according to the usual opinion result.
- the test methods used are explained in more detail below.
- the penetration test according to Emco and the color path impact test are defined as already in EP-A-0 785 307 described.
- Fine-particle pigments in the line composition accelerate in the general ink drying (shortening the ink path impact time, expressed by a lower densitometer value) and the Water intake.
- the specialist therefore has the choice or
- binders are generally used in paper coating, their sequence indicating decreasing binding effect: Plastic dispersions (e.g. styrene-butadiene, acrylate, styrene-acrylate), polyvinyl alcohol, protein or casein, starch.
- plastic dispersions e.g. styrene-butadiene, acrylate, styrene-acrylate
- polyvinyl alcohol polyvinyl alcohol
- protein or casein starch.
- the plastic dispersions mentioned are highly active binders, also in combination with PVA.
- the addition of a crosslinking agent may be required for certain binders.
- the total binder content can be below 16% by weight, based on coating pigment, preferably even below 14% by weight.
- PVA also has the property of irreversibly mounting on surfaces which have a relatively inert reactivity, as is the case with the calcium carbonate used in the context of the invention.
- the binder proportions can be as follows: Plastic binder 3 - 10% by weight PVA 0 - 5% by weight protein 0 - 5% by weight Strength 0 - 10% by weight CMC 0-2% by weight
- the coating colors used can be conventional additives, such as up to 1.5% by weight melamine formaldehyde resin as wet strength agent, up to 0.4% Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as a solution, optical brightener and / or Chemicals for pH adjustment, such as containing NaOH.
- CMC Carboxymethyl cellulose
- the coating colors according to the invention are added in an aqueous slurry Solids contents of 30-65 wt .-% processed dry mass processed.
- Application procedures come both scraping order procedures, as inverted Blade, Jet Flow as well as roller applicators like the Massey-Coater and also film presses, such as the Jagenberg film press, the Speedsizer or the Metering Size Press from Beloit in question.
- the paper according to the invention is therefore essentially independent of the type of stroke application process, although one or the other order method under certain conditions too can lead to a better result.
- the same Scraper coating processes the paper surface and therefore lead locally differently thick line application, while roller coating devices rather create a uniform stroke, what for Ink path behavior can be positive under certain circumstances. Significant can also be a gentle coat drying, so that not undesirable Binder migration phenomena the desired uniform Deteriorate microcapillarity of the coat application.
- line quantities intended to be dry are applied to the base paper with a mass per unit area of more than 4 g / m 2 and side. Area-based masses of 6-12 g / m 2 and side are preferred, typically about 7 g / m 2 and side.
- the invention is not limited to simply coated papers. It is also applicable to double coated papers. Double strokes are based on a mass per unit area of at least 15 g / m 2 and side, typically 20 g / m 2 and side, the coating slip being distributed approximately evenly between the two coat orders.
- the top coat is obviously decisive for the properties of the paper according to the invention. If, within the scope of this description, there is talk of a stroke application without this being specified, the single stroke application is meant for single-coated papers and the cover stroke for double-coated papers.
- the primer in the double stroke is always expressly designated as such in the context of this description.
- the primer can have a different composition from the top coat:
- the invention is not based on the use of any particular base paper limited. So both wood-free and wood-containing base papers and those with a significant proportion of processed waste paper fibers Find use.
- a wood-free base paper is suitable its entry for papermaking in dry portions 78% pulp, about 20% mineral filler, about 1% starch and about Contains 1% other aids.
- wood-containing base papers are preferred also contain a proportion of processed waste paper fibers.
- Wood-containing base papers usually also have printing technology Benefits, such as higher opacity.
- the fiber entry for a Raw paper containing wood and waste paper can, for example, refer to dry imaginary total fiber, from about 20% pulp, 20% wood pulp and 60 % Of waste paper.
- the material input can also contain up to about 50% mineral filler, which is about one Proportion of 1/3 of the substance composition corresponds. As is known, remains this amount of filler in the manufacturing process is not completely in the paper, but partly gets into the process water.
- wood pulp Fibrous component it can be all of these Trade substances that are commonly used in paper technology under this Expression can be understood, namely for example ground wood, thermomechanical wood pulp (TMP), chemical-thermal-mechanical Wood pulp (CTMP) etc.
- TMP thermomechanical wood pulp
- CMP chemical-thermal-mechanical Wood pulp
- the mass per unit area of the finished paper is in the range from 40 to 80 g / m 2 , masses from 54 to 60 g / m 2 are preferred.
- the dynamic penetration meter DPM 27 from the company serves as paper sample emco Elektronische Meß- und Steuerungstechnik GmbH in 04347 für, Gorki No 31.
- the test method is based on the device description and Operating instructions of this company as of 13.03.1995. Is measured the drop in the ultrasound transmission value based on the measured value the not soaked sample, which is set equal to 100%, over time. At each point in time, the measured value is given as a percentage of the same 100% set initial value. Basically it is a dynamic test in which a curve of the Transmission drop is applied over time. This curve is only falling steep, then bends and approaches more or at measuring times over 6 sec less asymptotic a certain transmission value.
- a company Applicant's modified throw-away test using the multi-purpose test printing machine System Dr. Dürner, the company strigbau Dr.-Ing. Herbert Dürner, Peissenberg, used.
- the throw-away test is defined under Conditions, a test print with a standard printing ink is produced, according to in contact with a counter paper for a defined time brought. The ink intensity printed on the backing paper is measured with a densitometer.
- the Counter-pressure test also as a lubrication test or a kick-off test referred to, a defined amount of printing ink on a paper strip applied, which then in sections at predetermined intervals is rolled over a counter test strip. The on the counter test strips
- the quantities of paint delivered are determined optically and allow conclusions to be drawn on the color recording behavior and stacking behavior of the test strip.
