Definitions
- the total layer thickness of such automotive paintwork is in practice between 90 and 130 ⁇ m, which is the sum of 15 to 25 ⁇ m layer thickness for the Primer, 30 to 40 ⁇ m for the filler layer, 10 to 25 ⁇ m for the Basecoat and 30 to 40 microns for the clear coat results. But it is so far necessary to significantly exceed these layer thicknesses when using paints particularly good visual appearance, i.e. with outstanding gloss and Top coat stand, for example, in the painting of motor vehicles of the top and luxury class should be achieved.
- DE-A-42 15 070 and in DE-A-38 39 905 for example, the application of several layers of clear lacquer on one Basecoat layer described. This then results in layer thicknesses of over 110 ⁇ m, e.g. up to 170 ⁇ m, which is for reasons of material savings and weight savings is undesirable on the finished vehicle.
- Basecoat layer formed, so is the total dry film thickness of the paint structure preferably 80 - 110 ⁇ m.
- a second particularly preferred embodiment of the invention consists in one Process for producing a multi-layer coating on an autophoretic coatable, metallic surface substrate, in which a Primer from an autophoretically separable aqueous coating agent is applied autophoretically and then baked, followed by a color and / or Effect basecoat layer from an aqueous coating agent is applied and burned in and then without applying Intermediate layers is provided with one or more clear lacquer coatings that is characterized in that as an autophoretically depositable coating agent used one that is electrically conductive in the baked state Primer layer, the basecoat layer consists of an electrophoretic separable aqueous coating agent by electrophoretic deposition is formed, the total dry film thickness of the clear coat or Clear lacquer layers between 40 and 80 microns, preferably between 40 and 60 microns and the total dry layer thickness of the multi-layer coating at 80 to 110 microns lies.
- the components imparting electrical conductivity are contained in the autophoretically depositable coating agent in such an amount that the desired specific resistance of the coating layer deposited therefrom is achieved in the baked state.
- the proportion of the constituent or components imparting electrical conductivity is, for example, between 1 and 30% by weight. The proportion can easily be determined by a specialist; it depends, for example, on the specific weight, the specific electrical conductivity and the particle size of the components imparting electrical conductivity. One or more of these components can be present in combination.
- the coating agents are aqueous coating agents with a Solids up to 50 wt .-%, for example up to 20 wt .-%, the lower limit for example is 10% by weight.
- the solid is formed from for Electrocoating usual binders, with at least part of the Binder ionic and / or substituents convertible into ionic groups and optionally groups capable of chemical crosslinking, and any existing crosslinking agents, fillers, pigments and paint Additives.
- the second coating layer can be produced
- the usual cathodic electrocoat materials (KTL) Basis of cationic or basic binders can be used.
- KTL cathodic electrocoat materials
- Such basic Resins are, for example, primary, secondary and / or tertiary amino groups resins containing, the amine numbers e.g. are 20 to 250 mg KOH / g.
- the weight average molecular weight (Mw) of the base resins is preferably 300 to 10,000.
- the ETL coating agents contain pigments, fillers and / or additives common in paint.
- Pigments come, for example, the usual inorganic and / or organic Colored pigments and / or effect pigments, such as Titanium dioxide, iron oxide pigments, Carbon black, phthalocyanine pigments, quinacridone pigments, metal pigments, e.g. made of titanium, Aluminum or copper, interference pigments, e.g. coated with titanium dioxide Aluminum, coated mica, graphite effect pigments, flaky Iron oxide, platelet-shaped copper phthalocyanine pigments in question.
- examples for Fillers are kaolin, talc or silicon dioxide.
- the pigments can be dispersed into pigment pastes, e.g. under use of known paste resins. It is particularly so in the case of ATL coating agents possible to use pigment pastes, such as those known to those skilled in the art Production of two-coat base coat / clear coat type suitable Waterborne basecoats are used. Such pigment pastes can be obtained are made by rubbing the pigments in a special water-thinnable Paste resin.
- the basecoat coating agents that can be used are conventional Coating systems that use one or more common base resins as film-forming binders contain. You can, if the base resins are not self-crosslinking or self-drying are, if appropriate, also contain crosslinkers. Both the base resin component and the crosslinker component is also not subject to any restrictions.
- a film maker can, for example, polyester, polyurethane and / or (Meth) acrylic copolymer resins can be used.
- the preferred Waterborne basecoats are preferably polyurethane resins, particularly preferred at least in a proportion of 15 wt .-%, based on the solid resin content of the Water-based paint.
- the basecoats used in the process according to the invention contain, in addition to usual physically drying and / or chemically crosslinking binders inorganic and / or organic colored pigments and / or effect pigments, such as e.g. Titanium dioxide, iron oxide pigments, carbon black, azo pigments, phthalocyanine pigments, Quinacridone pigments, metal pigments, e.g. made of titanium, aluminum or copper, Interference pigments, e.g. Titanium dioxide coated aluminum, coated Mica, graphite effect pigments, platelet-shaped iron oxide, platelet-shaped Kupfertphthalocyaninpigmente.
- inorganic and / or organic colored pigments and / or effect pigments such as e.g. Titanium dioxide, iron oxide pigments, carbon black, azo pigments, phthalocyanine pigments, Quinacridone pigments, metal pigments, e.g. made of titanium, aluminum or copper, Interference pigments, e.g. Titanium dioxide coated aluminum, coated Mica
- the basecoats may also contain customary paint additives, e.g. fillers, Catalysts, leveling agents, anti-cratering agents or in particular light stabilizers optionally in combination with antioxidants.
- customary paint additives e.g. fillers, Catalysts, leveling agents, anti-cratering agents or in particular light stabilizers optionally in combination with antioxidants.
- body shells with a metallic surface are preferred. These can consist of one made of single metal or mixed construction of several metallic Materials and / or from a corresponding metal layer Plastic parts should be built.
- metallic surfaces come from Autophoresis lacquer systems, especially at an acidic pH of, for example, between 1 and 6 attackable with the release of metal ions, familiar to those skilled in the art usual metal surfaces in question, for example made of iron, zinc, aluminum or corresponding alloys, but also, for example, galvanized steel surfaces.
- the Metal surfaces can be pretreated, for example with phosphating and passivation if necessary. However, this is just below Corrosion protection aspects are not necessary and therefore represents another Advantage of the inventive method.
- body shells used in the present invention in particular Motor vehicle body shells, for example, also their components and visible surfaces including motor vehicle chassis.
- the first coating layer composed of the autophoretically depositable coating agent is deposited onto these substrates autophoretically in the customary manner, preferably using the immersion method, preferably in a dry layer thickness of, for example, 5 to 25 ⁇ m, particularly preferably 10 to 20 ⁇ m.
- the autophoretically deposited coating layer can be aftertreated, for example rinsed, with water and / or optionally with special solutions before baking.
- the third application is then carried out, for example a spray application Coating layer, for example from a color and / or effect basecoat or in the case of the particular and independent embodiment of the present Invention from a clear lacquer coating composition.
- a spray application Coating layer for example from a color and / or effect basecoat or in the case of the particular and independent embodiment of the present Invention from a clear lacquer coating composition.
- the fourth Coating layer is made from a common liquid paint or powder clear coat (in in this case it is a dry-on-wet application) applied and together with the third coating layer at elevated temperatures, for example baked from 80 to 160 ° C. If necessary, further layers of clear lacquer can be used the same or different clear coat coating agents are applied. According to the invention, work is carried out so that the layer thickness of the transparent Coating layer or the total layer thickness of the transparent coating layers is between 40 and 80 ⁇ m, preferably between 40 and 60 ⁇ m.
