Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for the successive application of two layers of liquid or pasty media on one side of a running material web, in particular made of paper or cardboard, according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • Such a device is known for example from the published patent application DE 43 02 437 A1.
  • a first layer of a coating medium is applied to one side of a running material web with a first application device, and the material web is then passed through an arrangement of dryer devices.
  • a second layer of a coating medium is then applied to the side of the material web previously provided with the first layer using a second application device, and the material web is then again passed through various drying devices.
  • the two application devices are designed such that an application nozzle applies the coating medium to the roller surface of an application roller and the coating medium in a nip is transferred from the roll surface of the applicator roll to the material web.
  • each of the two application devices the roller nip is formed between an application roller and a counter roller, and the material web is in each case passed through the roller nip.
  • each of the two counter-rollers is also assigned a nozzle applicator, so that the counter-rollers themselves also act as application rollers and the back of the web of the running material web can also be provided with two layers of a coating medium.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object of providing a device for the successive application of two layers of liquid or pasty media on one side of a running material web, which can be designed to be comparatively compact and space-saving.
  • the counter roll is initially assigned a first indirect application device, which comprises a rotating application roller and a first application unit.
  • the first application unit is assigned to the roller surface of the application roller in order to apply a first liquid or pasty medium thereon. From the roller surface of the application roller, the first liquid or pasty medium is then in a roller gap which is formed between the counter roller and the application roller and through which the current one Material web is passed, transferred to one side of the material web.
  • a second application device is assigned to the same counter-roller in the direction of travel of the material web after the first application device, which has a second layer of a second liquid or pasty medium on the same side of the material web that was previously provided with the first layer of a first liquid or pasty medium applies.
  • the running material web is passed between the second application device and the counter roller.
  • a drying device is assigned to the side of the material web previously provided with the first layer of the first liquid or pasty medium between the nip of the first application device and the second application device.
  • This arrangement according to the invention results in a very compact and space-saving system, since both application devices for applying the two layers to one side of the material web are assigned to one and the same counter roller and the drying device for intermediate drying of the first applied layer can also be arranged in the vicinity of the counter roller .
  • the first and the second liquid or pasty medium applied can be of different consistency or of the same consistency.
  • the second application device is designed as an indirect application device and comprises a second rotating application roller and a second application unit.
  • the second applicator roll forms a second roll nip with the counter roll, through which the running material web is passed.
  • the second application unit is assigned to the roller surface of the second application roller in order to apply the second liquid or pasty medium thereon.
  • the second liquid or pasty medium becomes analogous to the first Transfer the application device from the roller surface of the second application roller in the second roller gap to the running material web.
  • the second application device is designed as a direct application device and comprises a second application unit.
  • the second application unit is assigned directly to the running material web along an application zone in order to apply the second liquid or pasty medium thereon.
  • the running material web is supported along this application zone on the roll surface of the counter roll.
  • Indirect application device is to be understood such that a liquid or pasty medium to be applied is first applied by an application unit to the roller surface of an application roller and from there is transferred in a roller gap to one side of the running material web.
  • Direct application device is to be understood in such a way that the liquid or pasty medium to be applied is applied directly from one application unit, that is to say without the interposition of an application roller, to one side of the running material web.
  • roller gap is to be understood in such a way that it can be both a roller gap in which the medium to be applied is pressed into the running material web by the roller surface of the application roller, and a roller gap as it is in a so-called " Reverse Roll Coater ".
  • the application roller rotates in the opposite direction to the counter roller
  • the application roller rotates in the same direction as the counter roller.
  • the medium to be applied is first applied to the surface of the application roller and from there in the roller gap, in which the surfaces of the application roller and the counter-roller run in opposite directions run, transferred to the running material web.
  • the medium to be applied is not pressed into the running material web in the nip, but is only transferred to the side to be coated.
  • a third applicator is assigned to the roll surface of the counter roll on the feed side in front of the roll gap of the first application device, in order to apply a third liquid or pasty medium to the roll surface of the counter roll.
  • the back of the material web that is to say the web side facing away from the first and the second application device, can also be coated with a liquid or pasty medium.
  • the counter roller functions as the application roller for the rear side of the web and the application roller of the first application device forms the corresponding counter roller in order to transfer the third liquid or pasty medium in the nip from the surface of the counter roller to the rear side of the material web.
  • a further embodiment consists in guiding the running material web between the first application device and the second application device over at least one deflection roller.
  • the material web does not run between the first application device and the second application device on the roller surface of the counter-roller, but is lifted off the counter-roller after the first application device, is guided over the at least one deflection roller and then guided again to the second application device to pass between the second applicator and the surface of the counter roll.
  • This path guidance over at least one deflection roller creates a space between the deflection roller and the roller surface of the counter-roller, which, as will be explained below, can be used for further devices.
  • a second drying device is provided, which is assigned to the back of the web of the running material web previously provided with a layer of the third liquid or pasty medium after the roll nip of the first application device.
  • This second drying device is therefore arranged in the intermediate space that results between the rear side of the running material web, which is guided over at least one deflection roller, and the roller surface of the counter-roller.
  • the layer previously applied to the back of the web by the third application device can be dried.
  • a further layer of a liquid or pasty medium can then be applied to the back of the web.
  • a further advantageous embodiment consists of providing two deflection rollers for guiding the material web between the first and the second application device, and that drying device which is assigned to the web side provided with the first layer by the first application device, on a section of the running material web between the two deflection rollers to arrange and to arrange the second drying device, which is assigned to the back of the web, in the direction of travel of the material web after the second deflection roller.
  • the two drying devices mentioned each comprise at least one dryer.
  • the web of the running material web between the two deflecting rollers is essentially vertical and after the second deflecting roller up to the second application device is essentially horizontal.
  • a fourth application unit is assigned to the roll surface of the counter roll on the feed side in front of the second application device in order to apply a fourth liquid or pasty medium to the roll surface of the counter roll.
  • This fourth application unit is therefore also arranged in the intermediate space which results between the web rear side, which is guided over at least one deflection roller, and the roller surface of the counter-roller. If the aforementioned second drying device is provided, the fourth application unit can be arranged, for example, above this second drying device or in an intermediate space between the second drying device and the roll surface of the counter roll.
  • the second application unit is designed as an indirect application unit, so that the application roller of the second application unit then - as in the situation with the third application unit - acts as a counter roller.
  • the counter roll to which the fourth application unit is assigned serves as the application roller for the fourth liquid or pasty medium, and the medium, after it has been applied by the fourth application unit to the roller surface of the counter roller, from this roller surface in the nip between the Application roller of the second application device and the counter roller is formed, pressed into the back of the running web of material.
  • This back of the web can, as explained above, already be provided with a layer of a third liquid or pasty medium and be intermediate dried on the second drying device.
  • the third and fourth liquid or pasty media can have the same or a different consistency, and if necessary the consistency of these media can also match the consistency of the first or second medium.
  • the second layer is provided by the second application device At least one dryer is assigned to the web side of the running material web, in the direction of travel of the material web after the second application device.
  • the second layer can be dried here.
  • at least one dryer can be assigned to the back of the web in the direction of travel of the material web after the second application device.
  • the dryers of the two drying devices which are arranged between the first and the second application device, and the dryers, which are connected downstream of the second application device, are designed as infrared dryers. This results in a very compact and space-saving construction. If required, however, individual or all of the dryers mentioned can also be of a different dryer type.
  • the first and / or second and / or third and / or fourth application unit is designed as a ready-dose application unit.
  • individual or all of the four application units can be designed as ready-dose application units.
  • the specific design of the order works naturally also depends on whether the second order device is to be implemented as a direct or indirect order device.
  • the finished metering applicators are designed as doctor element pressure chamber applicators or doctor element sump applicators.
  • the medium While in the former type the medium is applied from a pressure chamber via a doctor element, in the latter type the medium is applied from a sump with a free liquid surface via a doctor element.
  • the specific selection of the suitable commissioned work also depends on the geometric position with respect to the associated counter roll or applicator roll.
  • the doctor element of the doctor element applicator is a profiled or smooth roller doctor, a doctor bar or a doctor blade.
  • the first and / or second and / or third and / or fourth application unit each include a pre-metering device and a downstream final metering device.
  • the pre-metering device can be designed as a scoop roller, doctor element pressure chamber applicator unit or free jet nozzle applicator unit or in a similar manner.
  • the doctor element is a profiled or smooth roller doctor blade, a doctor bar or a doctor blade.
  • the final metering device comprises a doctor blade, a doctor bar or a smooth roller doctor.
  • the second application device can also be designed as a "reverse roll coater".
  • the second application roller then rotates in the same direction as the counter roller and the second application roller is then assigned, for example, a container with the medium to be applied, from which the application roller scoops out the medium.
  • a final metering device can then be connected downstream of the second application roller.
  • Each of the maximum of four commissioned works can therefore be selected individually from the known types of commissioned work according to the specific circumstances, as explained above.
  • other comparable application works can also be used.
  • a first embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown in a simplified, schematic representation.
  • a first counter roller 1 rotating in the direction of the arrow is assigned a first applicator roller 2 and a second applicator roller 4. Both application rollers 2 and 4 each rotate in opposite directions to the counter roller 1.
  • a running material web 6, e.g. made of paper, cardboard or a textile material, is first deflected via a deflection roller 20 and is then passed through a nip which is formed between the roller surface 1A of the counter-roller 1 and the roller surface 2A of the first application roller 2.
  • a first application unit 3 is assigned to the roller surface 2A of the first application roller 2. In the example, this first application unit 3 is only indicated schematically as a doctor element unit.
  • the first application unit 3 forms, together with the first application roller 2, a first indirect application device.
  • a layer of a first liquid or pasty medium is applied from the applicator unit 3 to the roller surface 2A of the applicator roller 2 and from there this layer is transferred in the nip, which is formed between the applicator roller 2 and the counter roller 1, to the web side 6A of the running material web .
  • the roller nip acts as a press nip in order to press the coating medium into the material web 6.
  • the material web After leaving the first nip, the material web runs over a deflection roller 9, as indicated by the directional arrow. In this way, the Material web 6 is guided away from the counter roller 1 after the first nip.
  • the material web runs essentially horizontally between the first nip and the deflection roller 9 and is deflected by the deflection roller 9 in a substantially vertical downward direction. Subsequently, the material web 6 is deflected again in a substantially horizontal running direction via a deflection roller 10.
  • a dryer 7, for example an infrared dryer is assigned to the web side 6A of the material web.
  • This dryer 7 serves for the intermediate drying of the first layer of a first liquid or pasty medium previously applied by the first application device 2, 3 to the web side 6A.
  • a further dryer 8 for example an infrared dryer, is assigned to the back of the web 6B of the material web 6 in the running direction after the deflection roller 10.
  • This dryer 8 could also be omitted in the first exemplary embodiment, but it has an intermediate drying function for the back of the web 6B for the further exemplary embodiments explained below.
  • the material web 6 runs into a second nip, which is formed between the roller surface 4A of the second application roller 4 and the roller surface 1A of the counter roller 1.
  • a second applicator 5 is assigned to the roller surface 4A of the second applicator roller 4, which is indicated only schematically as a doctor element applicator.
  • the application unit 5 applies a second layer of a second liquid or pasty medium to the roller surface 4A of the second application roller 4. From there, the second layer is transferred to the web side 6A of the material web 6 in the second nip, which here acts as a press nip like the first nip.
  • the material web 6 After leaving the second nip, the material web 6 is still deflected on the roller surface 1A of the counter-roller 1 and then runs diagonally upwards. The material web 6 is then deflected again by a deflection roller 21 and fed to a further device (not shown) for subsequent treatment of the material web.

Because the material web would then fall through in front of the dryer 7 and drop down from the dryer 8 without the material web being able to rest on one of the hot dryers.
  • a first layer of a coating medium, a so-called primer, and - after intermediate drying by the dryer 7 - a second layer of a coating medium, a so-called top coat, can be applied to the same web side 6A of the material web.
  • the application units 3 and 5 can be selected from application units known per se for applying a layer to an application roller.
  • the material web between the two nips could also be guided directly on the roller surface 1A of the counter-roller 1. This would make the system even more compact and the two deflection rollers 9 and 10 and the dryer 8 would be omitted.

  • This third application unit is indicated schematically as a doctor element unit.
  • the third applicator 11 is arranged on the inlet side in front of the first nip and applies a layer of a third liquid or pasty medium to the roller surface 1A. From there, the medium in the first nip, which is formed between the application roller 2 and the counter-roller 1, is transferred to the back of the web 6B of the material web and pressed.

  • a primer and a top coat of coating media can therefore be applied simultaneously to both web sides 6A, 6B using a very compact and space-saving system.
  • the four liquid or pasty media that are applied by the four application units 3, 5, 11 and 12 can each have a different consistency or at least partially the same consistency.
  • the second application device is in each case an indirect application device 4, 5.
  • an application unit 5 is provided in each case, which indirectly applies the liquid or pasty medium to be applied to the material web by means of an application roller 6 applies.
  • a further indirect application device could consist, for example, of providing an application roller which rotates in the same direction as the counter roller 1 instead of the application roller 4 and forms a nip with the latter. In the nip, the roll surface of the application roll would then run in the opposite direction to the roll surface 1A of the counter roll 1.
  • This application roller can then be assigned a scoop roller as an application unit instead of the doctor element application unit shown in the previous exemplary embodiments, which scoops the medium to be applied from a container. In this arrangement described, the medium to be applied is scooped from the roller surface of the scoop roller, transferred to the roller surface of the application roller rotating in the opposite direction to the scoop roller, and from the surface of the application roller in the opposite direction to the associated web side of the material web transfer.
  • Such an indirect application device (not shown) is referred to as a "reverse roll coater" since the roller surface of the application roller in the nip runs in the opposite direction to the roller surface of the counter roller.
  • a direct application device is provided as the second application device.
  • the application unit 5 carries the medium to be applied directly, i.e. without interposing an application roller, on the running material web 6.
