- Burning is associated with pollutant emissions. Because of the heat generated during the burning process, it is necessary to drill and pin the cores. Nevertheless, overheating and therefore a distortion of the cores can occur. Occasionally, the cones can burn out. The waste rubber hoses that remain after burning are very expensive to dispose of. - These knives are preferably used in a milling head. This creates a scale-like surface, which forms a particularly intimate bond with the raw material applied for renewal.
- US Pat. No. 2,265,643 describes a cutting tool for rasping off the surface of rubber tires which are to be retreaded. This tool is intended to create a smooth surface on which the retreading will then take place.
- the US-PS 1,718,793 describes a device with which rubber surfaces are to be roughened, which are then to be glued together to form the inner tube of car tires.

- U.S. Patent 2,398,763 describes a soft rubber, cotton and felt cutter having a loose texture or fibrous composition.
- This rotating cutting machine has a special design of the incisors.
- Figures 6 and 7 show the making of an elongated notch or the removal of the outer layer of a roller to a smaller diameter. Cutting is carried out with the help of a very special and complicated ground saw blade, which quickly becomes blunt and can only be reground with great effort.
- This device is not suitable to remove the relatively hard but elastic elastomer layers from used rollers. In practice, the used elastomer covers were removed from the rollers either by burning them off or by twisting them off.
- the object of the invention is to improve the process for removing used elastomeric covers from rollers in such a way that it becomes more economical, safer, more environmentally friendly and ultimately easier and quicker to carry out.
- the cutting tools are equipped with turning tools.
- ring steels have proven themselves extremely well.

- the used elastomeric covers no longer behave like elastomers, but rather like easily cut materials such as wood or plastics. This behavior had previously only been observed and used in the surface treatment of elastomers according to EP-A1-0 625 406.
- roller core In order to reliably avoid diameter wear on the core and to extend the service life of the cutting tools on the rotating cutter head, it is only brought close to the roller core. This leaves a thin remaining layer of the used elastomeric covers on the roll core. This is preferably removed with one or more rotating disc brushes with braided steel wires lying next to each other. This round disc brush is moved backwards but at the same time is guided along the rotating roller with the rotating cutter head. The remainder of the elastomeric coverings are removed in the form of dust. However, the roller core is not damaged or partially removed as when turning.
- Another advantage of the method according to the invention is that the particles resulting from the elastomeric covers by cutting and the dust generated by the post-brushing can be extracted.
- the particles are easy to store, transport and dispose of and can even be reused as waste rubber.
- Another advantage of the method according to the invention is that the rotating cutter head can carry out the processing of the next roller in the opposite direction after the processing of one roller has ended. It is therefore not necessary to move the rotating cutter head and the rotating disc round brush back to the starting positions.
- the insert holder is equipped with either turning steel or ring steel. Since the majority of the rollers are equipped with elastomeric covers up to approx. 90 Shore A, ring steels are predominantly used. Since most elastomeric covers only have a thickness of up to 25 mm, ring steels with a diameter of 50 mm can be used according to the invention. With these ring steels, reference thicknesses of up to 25 mm can be removed in one operation.
- the rotating cutter head produces peripheral speeds of 15 to 70, preferably 40 to 50 m / s. At these high cutting speeds, the used elastomeric covers behave like non-elastomeric, but easily cut materials such as wood and easily cut plastics.

- insert holders can be equipped so that the turning tools can be used in both directions. It is therefore also with this procedure possible to machine one roller on the way out and the next roller on the way back.
- Usual insert holders have at least two, but usually more, cutting edges. According to the invention, preference is given to working with indexable insert holders which can accommodate four cutting tools.
- These brushes are also preferably designed so that they work at peripheral speeds of 15 to 70, preferably 40 to 50 m / s.
- Commercial round disc brushes are not wide enough to remove the rest of the remaining elastomeric covers from the roller core at the same working speed as the rotating cutter head.
- several such brushes are mounted side by side, so that an effective width of 1 to 2 cm is created.
- Figure 1 is a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention in plan view.
- Figure 2 is a cross section through this device.

Description
The present invention relates to a method for removing used elastomeric covers from rollers and an apparatus for performing this method.
Used elastomeric covers of rolls have been removed either by burning off or by twisting. Burning is associated with pollutant emissions. Because of the heat generated during the burning process, it is necessary to drill and pin the cores. Nevertheless, overheating and therefore a distortion of the cores can occur. Occasionally, the cones can burn out. The waste rubber hoses that remain after burning are very expensive to dispose of. Overall, the burning process requires relatively large amounts of energy.
When twisting off used elastomeric covers from rollers, chips are created that are difficult to dispose of. Experience has shown that the long flowing chips increase the risk of accidents. When removing used elastomeric covers by twisting off, it is still unavoidable that the top layer of the core is always removed towards the end. This process is therefore always associated with a certain diameter wear.
Es entsteht dabei eine schuppenartige Oberfläche, welche mit dem zur Erneuerung aufgebrachten Rohmaterial eine besonders innige Bindung eingeht.DE-OS 22 48 853 describes a working method for preparing worn motor vehicle tires for retreading, in which the residual rubber is shredded from the tire with a rotating knife, the cutting edge of the knife preferably being grooved. The grooves in the cutting edge are preferably ground in conically. These knives are preferably used in a milling head. This creates a scale-like surface, which forms a particularly intimate bond with the raw material applied for renewal.
No. 2,265,643 describes a cutting tool for rasping off the surface of rubber tires which are to be retreaded. This tool is intended to create a smooth surface on which the retreading will then take place.
No. 1,971,428 describes a tool with which excess rubber is to be removed from swollen pressure rollers. Again, only relatively thin layers are removed from the rubber covering in order to create a smooth surface again.
The US-PS 1,718,793 describes a device with which rubber surfaces are to be roughened, which are then to be glued together to form the inner tube of car tires. The method and device for producing a hose according to DE-OS 14 79 623 serve the same purpose. A thin layer is removed in order to obtain a rougher surface.
Patent 2,398,763 describes a soft rubber, cotton and felt cutter having a loose texture or fibrous composition. This rotating cutting machine has a special design of the incisors. Figures 6 and 7 show the making of an elongated notch or the removal of the outer layer of a roller to a smaller diameter. Cutting is carried out with the help of a very special and complicated ground saw blade, which quickly becomes blunt and can only be reground with great effort. This device is not suitable to remove the relatively hard but elastic elastomer layers from used rollers. In practice, the used elastomer covers were removed from the rollers either by burning them off or by twisting them off.
Both turning off and burning off are time-consuming and therefore involve relatively high costs.
The object of the invention is to improve the process for removing used elastomeric covers from rollers in such a way that it becomes more economical, safer, more environmentally friendly and ultimately easier and quicker to carry out.
This object has now been achieved in that a rotating cutter head is brought up to one end of the cover of the rotating rollers, close to the roller core, which has a plurality of cutting tools mounted on an indexable insert holder and this cutter head is guided along the rotating roller to the other end of the cover , peripheral speeds of the cutting tools of 15 to 70 m / s, preferably 40 to 50 m / s being used.
If it is elastomers with a Shore A hardness of more than 90, the cutting tools are equipped with turning tools. In the case of elastomers with a Shore A hardness of up to approx. 90, ring steels have proven themselves extremely well. In both process variants, small parts with approximately the same size are created instead of chips. Chip-like particles are created when using rotary steels. At the high cutting speeds used according to the invention, the used elastomeric covers no longer behave like elastomers, but rather like easily cut materials such as wood or plastics. This behavior had previously only been observed and used in the surface treatment of elastomers according to EP-A1-0 625 406.
With this method, however, only very thin layers of the surface are removed. It could not have been foreseen that with a correspondingly higher energy supply and corresponding other tools such as ring steels or turning steels, the entire used elastomeric covering of rolls could be removed in one work step, with no damage or signs of wear to the roll core.
In order to reliably avoid diameter wear on the core and to extend the service life of the cutting tools on the rotating cutter head, it is only brought close to the roller core.
Another advantage of the method according to the invention is that the particles resulting from the elastomeric covers by cutting and the dust generated by the post-brushing can be extracted. The particles are easy to store, transport and dispose of and can even be reused as waste rubber.
Another advantage of the method according to the invention is that the rotating cutter head can carry out the processing of the next roller in the opposite direction after the processing of one roller has ended. It is therefore not necessary to move the rotating cutter head and the rotating disc round brush back to the starting positions.
Rather, it is only necessary to shift the position of the rotating disc round brush relative to the rotating cutter head, so that when the next roller is machined in the opposite direction, the rotating disc round brush is in turn displaced backwards but at the same time it is guided along with the rotating cutter head along the next rotating roller can.
- a) a machine tool for clamping and rotating the rollers with a support for feeding and adjusting the cutting tool
- b) a rotating cutter head with an insert holder and its own drive for the cutter head.
Depending on the hardness of the elastomeric cover used, the insert holder is equipped with either turning steel or ring steel. The rotating cutter head produces peripheral speeds of 15 to 70, preferably 40 to 50 m / s. At these high cutting speeds, the used elastomeric covers behave like non-elastomeric, but easily cut materials such as wood and easily cut plastics. The ring steels can no longer be used for elastomeric covers with more than 90 Shore A, so that conventional turning steels must be used. In principle, insert holders can be equipped so that the turning tools can be used in both directions. It is therefore also with this procedure possible to machine one roller on the way out and the next roller on the way back.
Usual insert holders have at least two, but usually more, cutting edges. According to the invention, preference is given to working with indexable insert holders which can accommodate four cutting tools.
- c) further support for feeding and for turning a rotating disc round brush with its own drive.
These brushes are also preferably designed so that they work at peripheral speeds of 15 to 70, preferably 40 to 50 m / s. Commercial round disc brushes are not wide enough to remove the rest of the remaining elastomeric covers from the roller core at the same working speed as the rotating cutter head. Preferably, therefore, several such brushes are mounted side by side, so that an effective width of 1 to 2 cm is created.
Diese mit einem elastischen Kunststoff verklebten Zöpfe der Stahldrähte und daraus hergestellten Scheibenrundbürsten sind Gegenstand des deutschen Gebrauchsmusters 296 08 399.2.Furthermore, it was found that the effectiveness and the service life of the round disc brushes can be significantly improved if the braids of the steel wires are glued to an elastic plastic. Polyurethanes, hot-melt adhesives and thermoplastic block copolymers have proven particularly useful. This gluing with an elastic plastic increases the stiffness of the braided steel wires and thus increases the aggressiveness of the brush. On the other hand, the braid has a certain residual elasticity, so that the roller core is not damaged by the steel brush, as could be the case with steel wires that are too short and too rigid. These braids of the steel wires glued with an elastic plastic and disc brushes made from them are the subject of the German utility model 296 08 399.2.
