The invention relates to a printed circuit board connector element with a plurality of signal contacts arranged in a grid-like manner in columns and rows in a female connector made of insulating material, and with a shielding unit which contains a first and a second ground plate which are conductive and which are directed towards one another ¬ overlying sides of at least one of the signal contacts and which are conductively connected to one another via a bridge, the shielding unit having a first ground connection projecting therefrom which can be conductively connected to the printed circuit board.
Ein derartiges Leiterplatten-Verbinderelement ist aus der DE 44 10 047 AI bekannt.Such a circuit board connector element is known from DE 44 10 047 AI.
Low-frequency circuit board connectors are increasingly operated with faster digital signals. The very steep signal rising edges correspond to high frequencies. This creates problems with the signal transmission quality, in particular undesirable crosstalk effects arise between adjacent signal contacts. On the other hand, it is foreseeable that modules with very fast signals as well as those with less fast signals will be used in future devices. This is why there is a need to connect and operate both frequency-optimized female connectors and standard female connectors by plugging them into standard male connectors on the back of the device.
Conventionally, the problem of crosstalk can be solved by passing the signals only over every second contact, while the contacts in between are grounded. With this solution, however, the number of connections that can be used for signal transmission is drastic reduced so that it appears to be of little use for applications with a high signal density.
From DE 40 40 551 C2 it is known to prevent crosstalk between adjacent connections in adjacent vertical rows by inserting a shielding element between the vertical connection rows of a female connector. A disadvantage of this solution, however, is that only three rows of the five available contact rows are usable for signals, and two rows are grounded.
A shielding unit with two bulkhead plates connected by a bridge is known from the aforementioned publication. However, only connector elements are proposed there, cf. FIGS. 2, 7 and 8, in each of which only a first, front half of the signal contacts of a column is shielded directly by the shielding unit belonging to this column. The other half of the column is shielded by two further shielding units which are arranged on the columns adjacent to the left and right and in each case only extend along the second, rear half of the signal contacts. This known constructive solution has the disadvantage that a signal contact must be connected to ground in each column, since a shielding unit is provided for each column, which in itself is complex in terms of production technology. The fact that two different shielding units are used, as well as the overall complicated assembly sequence that results, is also disadvantageous with regard to production. The known solution is problematic in terms of the method of operation of the shielding, in that each shielding unit can only be connected to the printed circuit board with one ground connection, so that the return flow cannot follow the ideal path.
The present invention has for its object to an improved connector of the type mentioned create, which in particular reliably prevents crosstalk, which causes structural changes only in one connector element, the female connector, and which is easy to produce.
This object is achieved according to the invention in a connector element of the type mentioned at the outset in that c) the ground plates each extend over all signal contacts in between in a column, d) and in that a shielding unit is provided only for every second signal contact column.
Weiterbildungen der Erfindung sind Gegenstand von Unteran- Sprüchen.Further developments of the invention are the subject of claims.
Es zeigt:The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments and the figures of the drawings. It shows:
Figur 1 in perspektivischer Darstellung eine Abschirmeinheit mit einem noch nicht eingesetzten Masse-Federkontakt sowie eine Federleiste, Figur 2 in ähnlicher Darstellung wie in Figur 1 eine weitere Ausführungsform einer Abschirmeinheit,1 shows a perspective view of a shielding unit with a mass-spring contact that has not yet been inserted and a female connector, FIG. 2 shows a further embodiment of a shielding unit in a representation similar to that in FIG. 1,
Figur 3 eine schematische Draufsicht auf einen Teil einer mit dem Verbinderelement verbundenen Leiterplatte, Figur 4 eine andere Ausführung der Leiterplatte gemäß Figur 3.3 shows a schematic plan view of part of a circuit board connected to the connector element, FIG. 4 shows another embodiment of the circuit board according to FIG. 3.
Shown in FIG. 1 above is a shielding unit 3 according to the invention, which has two parallel ground plates 4 and 5 which, at the end of the shielding unit on the knife bar side, in FIG has conductively connected to each other. At the end of the shielding unit 3 on the knife bar side, a formed insulation displacement contact 9 indicated. The insulation displacement contact 10, which is also formed on the ground plate 5, cannot be seen due to the selected perspective.
The present invention generally combats crosstalk by means of ground plates which are placed between the signal contacts of a column in the female connector. These ground plates must make a low-resistance contact with one or more pin contacts on the back of the device or on the male connector. As far as possible, this contact must take place in the front of the female connector so that the induced currents can be neutralized in the shortest possible way. The shield plates designed as ground plates reduce inductive and capacitive crosstalk and act as low-inductance connection paths to the ground in order to reduce the signal path impedance. They improve the transmission quality of the signal.
To produce a ground contact from the male connector via the female connector or the shielding unit to the circuit board connected to the female connector, a spring contact 8 is provided in the shielding unit 3, which takes the place of a signal contact 2 of the respective column. This spring contact 8 can advantageously be held by insulation displacement contacts 9 and 10 formed opposite each other on the ends of the mass platelets 4, 5 on the knife bar side, as shown in different embodiments in FIGS. 1 and 2.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 1, the spring contact 8 is formed with lateral shoulders 11 lying in the longitudinal direction of the spring strip 1, which should therefore allow a hold by the insulation displacement contacts 9 and 10 and thus a secure electrical connection. The embodiment according to FIG. 2 differs from the fact that there at the end of a contact leg of the Fe derkonts 8 a wide, in the longitudinal direction of the female connector 12 flag is formed, which is in turn held on the sides by an insulation displacement contact 9 and 10. The assembly according to FIG. 1 is carried out in such a way that first the spring contact 8 is inserted in the insulating body of the spring strip 1 and that the signal contacts 2 designed as signal spring contacts on the power supply side are then used. In each case two ground plates are then bent together as a bracket and inserted at the same time between the signal spring contacts, the ground contact being made at the insulation displacement contacts 9 and 10. When installing the shielding unit 3 according to FIG. 2, the signal spring contacts are first fitted in the insulating body of the female connector, then the ground plates are pushed in between and contacted by means of the insulation displacement contacts 9 and 10 on the lug 12 of the spring contact 8.
For practical applications, it is advantageous if, as in the embodiments according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the middle signal contact 2 of the respective column is replaced by the spring contact 8 and by the ground connection 7. The shielding unit 3 with the spring contact 8 provided for the ground connection to the male connector is inserted into each second column of the female connector 1, as can be seen in FIG. An opening 16 is provided in each case for the spring contacts 8 in the relevant columns of the spring strip 1. According to the invention, the complete column-wise shielding of the signal contacts is accordingly achieved by means of uniformly designed shielding units 3, it being particularly advantageous that only one shielding unit is required per two columns. This has the further advantage that only one signal contact has to be grounded per two columns.
It is electrically more favorable if, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, at least one second press-in ground connection 13 is formed on the shielding unit 3. The configuration shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, in which the bridge 6 is connected, has proven to be optimal in many respects the end opposite the knife-bar end of the shielding unit 3 is arranged and in which the press-in connections of the respective signal contact gaps extend in the manner of a gap between the first ground connection 7 behind these press-in connections and the further ground connections 13 in front of these press-in connections. This can be seen more precisely from the configurations of the connection bores shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 on the printed circuit board. Overall, the connections are laid or shaped in such a way that optimal guidance of the return flow is possible. In order not to make the unbundling with respect to the conductor tracks on or through the printed circuit board more difficult, it is advantageous if the connection bores for the ground connections at the front edge of the module and / or behind the signal connection rows 15 as shown in a line 14 lie. The position of a shielding unit 3 is also indicated in FIGS. 3 and 4. FIG. 4 shows an alternative contact in which pressure contacts, with a large plastic deformability and a sufficiently large elastic return action, between the Signalanschlu߬ rows 15 are.
The connector element according to the invention is therefore particularly suitable for combination with a printed circuit board, the press-in connections and the press-in ground connections 7 and 13 extending into the printed circuit board. This is made possible by arrangements consisting of a connector element according to the invention or a combination according to the invention with a female connector printed circuit board, and a combination of a male connector with another printed circuit board which can be connected by plugging. The invention can be used particularly successfully in connection with the SIPAC (registered trademark) high-speed connector family from Siemens.
