Abstract

The cylindrical grease polythene cartridge for use in a distributing gun has a tubular body (1) closed at one end by a bottom (2) moulded with cartridge side wall. Its other end is sealed by a removable plug. A connection zone of least resistance (4) is provided between the bottom periphery and the end of the tubular body. This zone is formed by a circular groove whose depth is equal to a fraction of the thickness of the bottom. A gripping ring (5) connected to the bottom enables easy separation of the bottom along the whole of its surface before use in the gun to obtain a smooth passage through which the grease can flow. Inside the connecting zone, in the radial direction, is a second zone (6) of least resistance, concentric with the first, so as to form between them a circular tearable band (7). These external and internal zones are connected by radial connecting zones of least resistance (9), directed towards the bottom centre, forming a tearing band (10'), whose end is connected to the gripping ring.

Claims (8)

  1. Cylindrical grease cartridge made of moulded plastic, in the form of a tubular body (1) for use in a grease gun with a piston, which in cooperation with the said piston, brings about the progressive expulsion of the grease through one of its ends which is normally blocked by a plug (3) before use, the other end of the tubular body (1) being closed off before use by a bottom (2) moulded directly at the same time as the lateral part of the tubular body (1), to which it is attached via a connection zone (4) of lesser strength which, in cooperation with a second connection zone (6), also of lesser strength and concentric with the first zone, delimit between them a circular tear-off strip (7) on the bottom (2) whose end is connected to a gripping element (5) advantageously consisting of a ring,
    characterised in that
    the outer zone (4) and the inner zone (6) are attached to at least one curved radial or obliquely radial and weaker connection zone (8, 9) directed towards the centre of the bottom (2) and delimiting a tear-off strip (10, 10') thereof, such that the detachment of the said bottom (2) of the tubular body (1) before use in the grease gun produces a smooth passage through which the piston can be engaged.
  2. Cartridge according to Claim 1,
    characterised in that
    a reinforcing strip (11) is provided on the tear-off strip (7) and is arranged concentrically between the two connection zones of lesser strength, namely the external zone (4) and the internal zone (6) which are connected together by an obliquely radial weaker zone (9) of the same type, the said reinforcing strip (11) following the weaker zone (9) along a connection (10') but not intersecting it, and being itself attached to the bottom of the gripping element (5).
  3. Cartridge according to Claim 2,
    characterised in that
    the reinforcing strip (11) is formed by an excess thickness of material sufficient to ensure that pulling the tear-off strip (7) delimited by the weaker zones (4) and (6) will not break or cut the said strip (7) before it has been completely detached from the tubular body (1).
  4. Cartridge according to the preceding claim,
    characterised in that
    the reinforcing strip (11) extends as close as possible to the weaker zone (4) around an open circular ring of width corresponding to about one-third of the width of the said tear-off strip (7) and is of a height between two and three times the average thickness of the bottom (2).
  5. Cartridge according to any of Claims 2, 3 or 4,
    characterised in that
    the reinforcing strip (11) may be located just as well on the inside or on the outside face of the bottom (2).
  6. Cartridge according to any of the preceding claims,
    characterised in that
    the weaker connection zones (4, 6, 8 and 9) have a V-shaped profile of depth such that the thickness of the strip remaining at the bottom of the "V" suffices to resist the pressure of the internal charge against the bottom (2) in all circumstances, but is thin enough to allow easy detachment when the ring (5) is pulled by hand.
  7. Cartridge according to any of the preceding claims,
    characterised in that
    all the weaker zones (4, 6, 8 and 9) can be just as well located on the inside face of the bottom (2) as on its outside face.
  8. Cartridge according to any of the preceding claims,
    characterised in that
    it is made from a degradable moulded plastic material such as polyethylene.
