Abstract

A method and apparatus for washing printing press form cylinders and associated applicator rollers in a manner which reduces the drying of quick-drying media, such as varnish or ink, on the applicator roller and form cylinder. The washing device is disposed in a nip between the form cylinder and applicator roller and has two curved surfaces disposed in closely adjacent relation to respective surfaces of the form cylinder and applicator roller. Each curved surface has a spray device for directing a cleaning fluid onto the adjacent form cylinder and applicator roller and a suction-extraction device for removing sprayed cleaning fluid and removed ink and impurities. The method and apparatus may be selectively operated in a print-on mode in which a cleaning fluid is sprayed onto the rotating form cylinder and is suction-extracted from its outer surface. When printing is switched off, the method and apparatus may be operated in a print-off mode in which cleaning fluid is sprayed onto the rotating applicator roller and onto the rotating form cylinder, with the applicator roller is separated from the form cylinder.

Description

The invention relates to a method and a device for washing a forme cylinder and an associated application roller in a printing press, preferably in an offset printing press with at least one coating unit.

A washing device of this type is known from WO 95/01876. The washing device can be moved axially parallel to the axis of a plate cylinder to be cleaned. The washing device can be operated with a cleaning medium in the form of compressed air with optionally granular additives or in the form of a cleaning liquid with optionally granular additives. The device has a feed for the cleaning medium and a suction. The cleaning medium is sprayed onto the cliché and then suctioned off. Contamination and paint are also extracted. When using grain-shaped additives, the quality of the cliché is negatively affected.

The object of the invention is to develop a solution which reduces the drying of quick-drying media on the application roller and, if necessary, on the forme cylinder.

This is solved by the training features of claims 1 and 5. The method according to the invention, in connection with the device for carrying out the method, allows the combined washing of the forme cylinder with the printing form and the application roller, in particular a rastered application roller. This prevents the "clogging" of the cells, which is known in the case of rastered application rollers, which causes an undefined reduction in the scooping volume. The solution according to the invention permits automated washing of the application roller and forme cylinder within the printing press in various operating states. Combined washing shortens cleaning times. Water is preferably used as the cleaning agent used. Alternatively, solvents can also be used which essentially contain water.

Als schnelltrocknende Medien werden vorzugsweise Farbe bzw. Lack verwendet.Color or varnish are preferably used as the quick-drying media.

In an offset printing machine, the last printing unit in the machine direction is followed by a coating unit and is used for inline coating of substrates. The coating unit essentially consists of a printing cylinder 1 carrying the printing material, to which a form cylinder 2 that can be turned on and off is assigned. The forme cylinder 2 carries a high-pressure mold, which is essentially formed from a flexible elastomer. An applicator roller 3, which can be turned on and off, is assigned to the forme cylinder 2. The application roller 3 has a grid structure and is made of ceramic. A feed device 4, which in the present embodiment is a chambered doctor blade, is arranged on and off the application roller 3. The feed device 4 has a line system for feeding or discharging the medium to be processed, in the present example this is a dispersion lacquer. Printing cylinder 1, forme cylinder 2, applicator roller 3 and the feed device 4 are mounted in side frames in a known manner. A washing device 5 is arranged between the forme cylinder 2 and the applicator roller 3 and can be moved axially parallel to the forme cylinder 2 and the applicator roller 3 on a traverse fixed in the side frames. The washing device 5 has two curved surfaces which are arranged in a gap 12 spaced from the forme cylinder 2 and applicator roller 3. The surfaces preferably run concentrically to the lateral surfaces of the forme cylinder 2 and applicator roller 3. Each surface has a spray device 10, which is followed by a suction device 11 in the direction of rotation of the applicator roller 4 or the forme cylinder 2. The spray devices 10 are each connected to a cleaning fluid supply 6. The suction device 11 are each connected to a cleaning fluid discharge 7. The cleaning fluid inlets 6 and the cleaning fluid outlets 7 end in a common container 9 for receiving the cleaning fluid and thus form a circulatory system. When using several cleaning fluids, e.g. solvents with Water or only water, several containers 9 can also be integrated into the circuit. In this circuit system, a control unit 8 is integrated in terms of circuitry, which controls the washing process.

The mode of action is as follows:
In printing mode (print on position), the medium lacquer is fed to the screened application roller 3 by the feed device 4. The application roller 3 transfers this varnish metered to the form cylinder 2, which refines the printing material in connection with the printing cylinder 1. While the forme cylinder 2 is stirring paint, the cleaning fluid is sprayed onto the forme cylinder 2 in a controlled manner by means of a spray device 10 and continuously sucked off by means of a suction device 11. The washing device 5 is moved axially back and forth parallel to the forme cylinder 2. In the printing on position, the surface of the washing device 5 adjacent to the application roller 3 is not activated. In the pressure-free operation (print from position), the forme cylinder 2 is decoupled from the application roller 3. The cleaning fluid is sprayed in a controlled manner by the spray devices 10 onto the forme cylinder 2 and onto the applicator roller 3 and is continuously sucked off from the outer surfaces of the forme cylinder 2 and the applicator roller 3. In the pressure-free operation, the rotating applicator roller 3 can continue to be supplied with paint continuously, while its outer surface is washed. In a further embodiment, the supply of lacquer to the application roller 3 is stopped during pressure-free operation, while the outer surface of which is being washed. The forme cylinder 2 can optionally be washed with it. The application roller 3 can also be washed separately by stopping the forme cylinder or using it for other work and separating it from the application roller 3. The cleaning fluid is then sprayed exclusively onto the rotating applicator roller and sucked off from its outer surface. The forme cylinder 2 is then ready, for example, for a printing form change.
The coating unit is preferably washed synchronously with the upstream printing units and / or further coating units, but separate washing in the coating unit is also possible.
