Definitions
- the invention relates in particular to the coating or printing of a plastic film with water-containing or aqueous coating media, solvent-containing coating media such as ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, xylene, butanone, methyl ethyl ketone, dimethylformamide, methyl glycol acetate and tetrahydrofuran or mixtures of aqueous and solvent-containing coating media, UV-curable Varnishes or paints as well as PVC pastes.
- the invention relates to the coating of a plastic film with a water-containing coating medium, in particular the printing with a water-soluble ink.
- Plastic films are already coated in large quantities in the production of data carrier tapes, such as audio and video tapes, with solvent-based and in particular with water-containing coating media which contain the particles relevant for data storage.
- the plastic films are guided over roller sections and may be heated to relatively low temperatures due to the shrinkage. These low temperatures make very long drying distances, for example up to more than 160 m, necessary for the effective drying of the coating medium.
- DE-A-37 29 450 discloses a method for coating a film strip on both sides, two strips being connected to one another at the edges, which are then called Run sandwich or laminate through a covering tape, after which a treatment of the coated layer takes place and finally the two tapes, which are only connected to one another at the edge, are separated from one another by cutting off the connecting edges, so that, according to DE-A-37 29 450, the final product is finally two tapes coated on one side are present.
- DE-A-36 05 426 discloses a process for the surface finishing of polyethylene films. A color is applied to a printing film which is applied to a support made of metal or paper. When transferring the printing film to a polyethylene film, it is pulled off the backing material.
- US-A-2 594 290 describes a transfer printing process in which the coating of the plastic film with the coating medium takes place at the same time as the film is deposited on the endless conveyor belt.
- the film is cooled by a cooler after coating and the coating medium is dried (by a drying machine) before it is coated onto the film deposited on the conveyor belt.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of providing a process for coating or printing a plastic film with aqueous coating media, solvent-containing coating media or mixtures of aqueous and solvent-containing coating media, UV-curable lacquers or paints and PVC pastes, which is suitable for Screen, flexographic, rotogravure and offset printing as well as coating and varnishing including lamination are suitable and avoid long drying distances while maintaining an exact print repeat.
- plastic films should be coated or printed with water-containing coating media.
- paints, lacquers and coatings can be thermally bonded to the film at temperatures at 200 ° C. and more using the process according to the invention.
- the film has an adhesion of 150 N / 5 cm.
- the printing speed can be up to 350 m / min. be.
- the method according to the invention is environmentally friendly when using water-soluble media.
- the usual solvent-based paints, varnishes, plastisols and UV-curable products can also be used, with long drying distances being avoided. It is also advantageous that air conditioning of the work rooms is no longer necessary. Different printing processes in line, coating, painting and laminating and embossing are now possible.
- films with a thickness of 0.01 to 0.5 mm can be printed, lacquered, coated, laminated and embossed.
- a high-quality surface refinement can thus be achieved by printing web-shaped materials according to the invention.
- the films coated or printed according to the invention can e.g. for the production of furniture foils, decorative foils, adhesive foils, cover foils, synthetic leather, PVC and PVC wallpaper or for the production of floor coverings.
- a grained or embossed circumferential band can be used for embossing films and coatings.
- an unprinted or printed film, material web can be applied to the embossed tape and, as is known, removed from the back.
- the procedure is such that the film or material web lying on the smooth conveyor belt or coating on an embossed tape or vacuum or mechanically transferring and then embossing and peeling back as is known.
- the film or the coating can be printed, coated or embossed from the front or the back.
- films or coatings can also be embossed without printing.
- the film or coating can be laminated directly onto a grained or embossed rotating conveyor belt.
- the method according to the invention makes work considerably easier, since there is no need to pull in the forerunner and trailer and a feeder device.
- the film can be inflated by means of air in step a) of the method according to the invention or sucked onto the base by means of vacuum or can be transferred mechanically.
- the method according to the invention can be carried out simply.
- a heat-resistant, driven, continuously rotating special belt made of aramid, polyamide or polyester blend as well as nonwovens and felts or the like is used, which can be equipped with a release layer.
- All commercially available release agents such as silicone, PTFE, (Teflon ®) and the like are used as release agents.
- the conveyor belt can contain a coating such as a hard rubber coating or, in another embodiment, a coating made of commercially available thermoplastic polymers.
- the film to be coated or printed is laminated on the above-described, heat-resistant special conveyor belt. This laminate is printed or coated. After the composite web has cooled, the film is separated and wound up as usual.
- the film heated in this way and for the stated purpose must be cooled before coating, as a result of which, as tests have shown, the adhesion of the film to the conveyor belt previously achieved is not impaired.
- the plastic film can thus be coated with a water-containing medium or printed with a water-soluble ink in the next working step, with the adhesive remaining on the conveyor belt, after which the applied medium or the printed ink must be dried.
- this drying can only be achieved by a not inconsiderable heating.
- this heating ensures the reaction of particles of the medium or of the printing ink with particles of the surface of the plastic film, whereby at the same time a good strength of the coating or of the printed image is achieved.
- the method according to the invention therefore in fact offers the possibility of coating or printing on Plastic films with aqueous coating media, solvent-containing coating media or mixtures of aqueous and solvent-containing coating media, UV-curable paints or inks and PVC pastes achieved.
- water - containing media or water - soluble printing inks should be used in such a way that large amounts of film can be used by means of conventional coating or printing units in practically all conventional coating or printing techniques while at the same time achieving the best coating or printing quality and durability of the coating or . of the print can be coated or printed.
- the printing ink can also be a water-soluble printing ink.
- a water-soluble printing ink consists of 90 parts water with 10 parts binder and paint.
- the viscosity of this aqueous coating medium is 20 seconds Ford cup with 4mm nozzle.
- the coating medium can also be a mixture of aqueous and solvent-containing media.
- a water-containing coating medium contains 85 parts water and 5 parts isopropanol and 10 parts binder and paint.
- PVC pastes plastisols
- S-PVC types i.e. all commercially available PVC types are used.
- UV-curable lacquers or paints So-called photoinitiators are contained in these UV-curable lacquers or paints, which are split by UV light and then bring about the radical and cationic polymerization of the binders.
- the UV-curable lacquers are therefore cured by UV radiation, whereby the UV lamp, binder and photoinitiator must be well coordinated.
- the work steps according to the invention can advantageously be repeated several times in their entirety, so that, for example, different printing inks can be printed one after the other during printing.
- the first part of the heating of the plastic film can also be postponed so far that this part of the heating process only takes place after the film has been placed on the support.
- the film then still runs onto the surface with the internal tensions; however, since it does not yet show any adhesiveness, when its internal tensions are released as a result of the heating, it can initially "slide" on the base until the internal tensions of the film are released by heating, and then the lamination is carried out.
- the at least partial heating of the plastic film after it has been placed on the base offers the possibility of advantageously supplying the film with the necessary heat by absorption from the base.
- the pad can thus consist, for example, of a suitably heated conveyor belt.
- the temperature required to achieve the adhesiveness of the plastic film is generally too high a temperature for the actual coating or printing process, which is why cooling of the film must be provided in a next process step.
- This cooling should expediently take place from the side of the film to be coated or printed. This allows cooling to be kept to a minimum.
- drying of the coating medium or printing ink is required in the usual way, which means that if solvent-soluble printing inks are used, the solvent has to volatilize and if water-containing coating media or water-soluble printing inks are used here, they have to be eliminated of the water content.
- This drying is expediently carried out by the action of heat from the coating or printed side, whereby the heat energy required for drying can be reduced to a minimum.
- the printed and dried plastic film be removed from the base for the required cooling of the film to cool it at least partially before removing it, so that the removal can already take place under the influence of Tensile forces can take place without changing the print image by possibly elongating the film.
- cooling can also take place after removal from the base.
- plastic films drawn off from a supply roll, that is to say large quantities of plastic, it is advisable to deposit the film from a moving support, which at the same time represents the transport medium for the plastic film.
- the moving support is a continuously rotating, heat-resistant special conveyor belt.
