Abstract

The cable connector proposed is surrounded by a screening housing (11) and has projecting retention shoulders (e.g. 13, 17) which are cut out from a separate metal sheet (19) and bent outwards. The retention shoulders project through slit-like apertures (20) in the screening housing (11). The size of the slit-like apertures (20) closely matches the cross-sectional shape of the retention shoulders so that the shoulders substantially close off the apertures, thus ensuring that screening is also completely effective in this zone.

Description

The invention relates to a shielded cable connector for plugging onto a connector, in particular a backplane of a module frame, the cable connector being enclosed by a shield housing.

Such a cable connector is e.g. became known through the documents of the German utility model 92 07 674. The shield housing of the cable connector can then be contacted with shield plates which are arranged along the side walls of the cable connector. Lugs are cut out and bent out of the shield walls of the shield housing, which protrude into the locking slots of the shield plates. By cutting free and bending out there are openings in the shield housing, which affect the shielding effect at very high frequency cable connectors.

The invention has for its object to improve the shielding effect.

This object is achieved by the invention according to claim 1. Then the assembly projections are now part of a separate plate from which the assembly projections are punched out and bent out. This can be done more easily with a separate part than with the complicated shield housing of the cable connector. The slot-like frankings can be closely adapted to the cross sections of the projections, so that the projections that pass through, together with the parts of the sheet metal plate underneath, largely close the frankings. The metal plate can be connected to the screen housing in a contact-making and cost-effective manner, for example by spot welding.

By detaching the mounting protrusions from the shield housing, its wall thickness can be kept considerably less than is required for the mounting protrusions. The sheet metal plate is optimally matched to the requirements for the mounting projections in terms of its shape and nature and can be arranged in an area of the screen housing in which e.g. Distribute the wires of the cable from the cable entry to the plug contacts. In this area there is enough space within the shield housing for the sheet metal plate.

Vorteilhafte Weiterbildungen der Erfindung sind in den Ansprüchen 2 bis 5 gekennzeichnet.:Advantageous developments of the invention are characterized in claims 2 to 5:

Through the development according to claim 2, it is possible to stabilize the cable connector in a form-fitting manner on the shield plates.

Through the development according to claim 3, at least the two outer mounting projections of the compact sheet metal plate can be easily cut and bent.

Through the development according to claim 4, cutting contours for the inner guide lug and the inner locking lug can be connected to one another in such a way that a simple window shape with smooth, continuous cut edges results. Care is taken to ensure that at least two of the cut edges are at the same height, so that the window on this side runs in a straight line.

Through the development according to claim 5, the bending radii of the mounting projections can protrude into the slot-like clearances, so that the sheet metal plate can lie closely against the screen housing. The enlarged gaps between the mounting projections and the shield housing are covered by the curved parts of the mounting projections.

The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing.

According to Figures 1 and 2, a connector 1 with a connector housing 2 is placed on a backplane 3. These and the connector housing 2 are penetrated by connector pins 4 and form on the side of the backplane 3 facing away from the connector 1 plug contact points for plug-in modules 5, which can be inserted into a module frame, on the back of which the backplane 3 is fastened.

The connector housing 2 has on its longitudinal sides side walls 6, along which shield plates 7 extend, which are provided on their inside with contact spring strips 8. The shield plates 7 are attached by means of comb-like protruding pins 9 in bores of the backplane 3 and contacted with ground. The contact spring strips 9 rest on the shield plates 7 and are bulged in their central region towards the side walls 6 and provided with transverse slots between which spring tongues 10 are formed. A shield housing 11 of a cable connector is with its shield walls inserted between the spring tongues 10 and the side walls 6 and contacted with the spring tongues 10.

The shield plates 7 are extended in the plug-in direction beyond the contact spring strips 8 and form on their top guide sections which are provided with slot-like openings 12, protrude into the locking lugs 13 protruding from the shield housing 11 and thus secure the cable plug against unintentional removal.

On the side walls 7, in addition to the openings 12, guide slots 14 are cut out from the insertion side and extend into the insertion direction, into which guide webs 15 projecting vertically from the shield housing 11 are inserted. On the guide webs 15 there are hook-like projections 16 in their material plane, which extend beyond the base of the guide slots 15 and engage behind the shield plate 7 with little play. Together with the guide webs, they form hook-like guide lugs 17 which hold the shield housing 11 together with the latching lugs 13 in a form-fitting manner on the shield plates 7 in all coordinate directions. Lateral forces acting on the cable connector are thereby transferred at a distance from the connector pins 4 to the shield plates 7 with a favorable leverage effect, so that the cable connector assumes an almost rigid position relative to the connector 1. Here, sloping inlet on the guide slots 14 and the hook-like projections 16 make it easier to put the parts together.

Between the openings 12 and the guide slots 14, longitudinal slots 18 are cut into the shield plates 7 from the upper edges and extend in the direction of insertion, which result in deflectable tabs that are decoupled from one another. This makes it possible, when inserting the cable connector, to spread apart the tabs 12 having openings 12 when the latching lugs 13 strike, without the position of the tabs with the guide slots 14 being changed in the process. By the spring properties of the tabs contact the side walls 7 in addition to the spring fingers 10 with the shield housing 11, which further improves the shielding effect of the device.

The locking lugs 13 and the guide lugs 17 are cut out of a separate sheet metal plate 19 and bent out, which is attached to the inside of the screen housing 11. For the guide lugs 17 and the latching lugs 13, slot-like clearances 20 are formed in the shield housing, the width of which is approximately equal to the thickness of the metal plates 19. In this way, the shield housing 11 remains largely closed with regard to its shielding effect.

In Figures 3 to 6, the shape of the sheet metal plate 19 with the guide lugs 17 and the locking lugs 13 is shown in detail. It can be seen that the slot-like opening 20 is closed by the guide lug 17 only with its guide web 15. The hook-like projection 16 engaging behind the screen wall 7 requires the greater length of the slot-like clearances 20 for assembly reasons, but these are covered by the screen wall 7 in this area.

Jeweils eine der Führungsnasen 17 und der Rastnasen 13 sind entlang zweier gegenüberliegenden Seitenkanten des Blechplattchens 19 freigestanzt und senkrecht nach außen abgebogen.FIGS. 5 and 6 show the complete shape of the sheet metal plate 19 with the guide lugs 17 and the latching lugs 13. These protrude through the outer wall of the umbrella housing 11, the slot-like clearances 20 of which are indicated in FIG. 5 as dash-dotted lines. In each case one of the guide lugs 17 and the latching lugs 13 are punched out along two opposite side edges of the sheet metal plate 19 and bent vertically outwards.

In the top view of FIG. 5, the inner mounting projections 13, 17 protrude into a common middle window, from which they are cut free and bent outwards. It can be seen that the slot-like clearances 20 are widened in the region of the radii of curvature, so that the sheet metal plate 19 can lie flat against the screen housing 11. However, the widened sections of the slot-like frankings 20 are covered by the bent sections of the mounting projections 13, 17, so that no harmful openings result. The remaining contours of the slot-like clearances 20 are closely matched to the cross section of the mounting projections and are therefore completely closed by them. The locking lugs 13 and guide lugs 17 are arranged so that they are aligned with their lower edges 21 pointing in the direction of insertion, which simplifies the sectional shapes.
