Abstract

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé d'amélioration d'un matériau titanifère, consistant à enlever les impuretés contenues dans le matériau, en particulier les radionuclides. Le procédé consiste à chauffer le matériau titanifère à une température inférieure à 1300 °C pour former une phase titanifère solide et un oxyde liquide ou une phase vitreuse en présence d'un matériau qui favorise la formation de telles phases, à faire refroidir le produit à une vitesse qui maintient la phase vitreuse en état amorphe, et à lessiver le matériau solidifié avec un acide ou un alcali pour en enlever les impuretés. Les matériaux favorisant la formation des phases requises comprennent les composés de métaux alcalins et de bore, tels que le borax, la soude caustique, la soude calcinée et la silice.
