Definitions
- the invention relates to a carrier bag made of thermoplastic material with side walls, the upper edge areas of which are folded inwards, whereby folds are formed, and with handle loops of similarly flexible material, which are integrally connected to the upper edge areas.
- Such carrier bags are already in use as shopping bags, but they have the disadvantage that they are open at the top and therefore do not protect the goods therein against rain etc.
- textile carrier bags made of thermoplastic which protect the textile goods transported in them from rain by a corresponding flap.
- Such textile carrier bags generally have handles made of relatively rigid plastic, which are welded to the upper edge regions of the carrier bag by means of corresponding reinforcing webs.
- These previously known bags have decisive disadvantages with regard to their manufacture and their recycling.
- various plastic processing machines are necessary for the production, since the carrying bag and the handles each consist of a different plastic material. When recycling, they must be injection molded manufactured solid handles are separated by hand from the rest of the carrier bag before they can be regranulated separately from the thermoplastic material.
- a carrier bag made of thermoplastic material is known. It has side walls, the upper edge areas of which are folded inwards. Furthermore, it has grip loops made of similarly flexible material, which are integrally connected to the edge regions. The edge region of one side wall can protrude downward over the edge region of the other side wall, the projecting edge region having a slot-shaped incision in the region of the grip loops, so that it can be pulled out of the pocket and a grip loop can be placed.
- carrier bags There is a need for the manufacturer of carrier bags to produce carrier bags from thermoplastic that are multifunctional, i.e. can be used both as a conventional carrier bag for food, etc. and as a textile carrier bag for goods to be protected from rain.
- this carrier bag should be as simple as possible and therefore inexpensive to manufacture, and on the other hand, it should be easy to dispose of.
- the inwardly folded edge regions of the carrier bag can be integrally connected to the respectively associated side wall along their inwardly open edge.
- the edge regions are not only cohesively connected to one another at the lateral boundary edges of the side walls, i.e. welded or glued.
- the stability of the edge regions of the carrier bag is advantageously increased, in particular an unintentional tearing is made more difficult.
- a weld seam or adhesive line is advantageously arranged essentially parallel to the envelope fold between the envelope fold and the incision within the edge region having the protruding envelope fold. This advantageously prevents inadvertent pulling apart of the edge region in the region of the incision in the edge region having the protruding fold-over fold when the grip loops are inserted into the incision.
- the edge area having the protruding envelope fold is additionally reinforced as a result.
- the ends of the grip loops can be welded continuously to the edge areas, that is to say that the correspondingly flat welding point connects the respective grip loop end to the two superimposed film areas of the corresponding edge area. This through-welding additionally fixes the foils lying on top of one another in the edge areas and at the same time increases the stability of the carrier bag.
- the carrier bag made of thermoplastic material 10 shown in FIG. 1 has two side walls 12, 14 and a bottom fold 13.
- the side walls 12, 14 are laterally welded together.
- the side walls 12, 14 are folded inwards to form edge regions 16, 18, which represent fold-over folds, the edge edges 24, 26 which are open inwards coming to lie approximately at the same height.
- an edge area 16 projects beyond the other edge area 18, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
- a closing weld seam 23 or 27 is drawn along the edge regions 16 or 18 along its inwardly open edge 24 or 26.
- the edge regions 16 and 18 are thus closed laterally by the welding edges of the side walls and towards the bottom fold 13 by the welding seams 23 and 27.
- the grip loops 20, which are also made of thermoplastic, are welded at their ends 32 and 34 to the edge regions 16 and 18, respectively, via flat spot welds 36 and 38. The welding connects the respective handle ends to two foils lying one on top of the other, forming the respective edge area.
- the edge region 16 having the protruding fold-over fold 28 has a slot-shaped incision 22 in the region of the grip loops 20.
- the handle loops 20 can be inserted through this incision 22 if the edge region 16 having the protruding fold-over fold 28 is to serve as a flap protecting against rain etc.
- an additional weld seam 30 is provided near the cut, preferably over the entire length of the edge region 16, essentially parallel to the fold 28.
- This weld seam advantageously prevents unintentional pulling apart of the two plastic foils of the edge region 16 lying one on top of the other if the grip loops 20 are inserted through the incision.
- FIG. 3 shows the carrier bag in one of its states of use.
- the carrier bag In the state of use shown there, the carrier bag is used as a carrier bag for goods not to be particularly protected, the edge region 16 having the protruding fold-over fold being folded outwards onto the side wall 12.
- the goods transported in the carrying bag 10 are not protected against rain etc. in this state of use.
- the tote bag shown in Fig. 3 can easily be converted into a textile tote bag, in which after inserting the goods into the tote bag 10, the flap 16 is pushed over the opposite side wall 14 after inserting the grip loops 20 into the incision 22, this in the tote bag transported textile goods are protected from rain etc.

Description
The invention relates to a carrier bag made of thermoplastic material with side walls, the upper edge areas of which are folded inwards, whereby folds are formed, and with handle loops of similarly flexible material, which are integrally connected to the upper edge areas.
Such carrier bags are already in use as shopping bags, but they have the disadvantage that they are open at the top and therefore do not protect the goods therein against rain etc.
On the other hand, textile carrier bags made of thermoplastic are already known, which protect the textile goods transported in them from rain by a corresponding flap. Such textile carrier bags generally have handles made of relatively rigid plastic, which are welded to the upper edge regions of the carrier bag by means of corresponding reinforcing webs. These previously known bags have decisive disadvantages with regard to their manufacture and their recycling. First of all, various plastic processing machines are necessary for the production, since the carrying bag and the handles each consist of a different plastic material. When recycling, they must be injection molded manufactured solid handles are separated by hand from the rest of the carrier bag before they can be regranulated separately from the thermoplastic material.
From the subsequently published EP-A 0444291 a carrier bag made of thermoplastic material is known.
There is a need for the manufacturer of carrier bags to produce carrier bags from thermoplastic that are multifunctional, i.e. can be used both as a conventional carrier bag for food, etc. and as a textile carrier bag for goods to be protected from rain. On the one hand, this carrier bag should be as simple as possible and therefore inexpensive to manufacture, and on the other hand, it should be easy to dispose of.
This need is taken into account by further developing a carrier bag of the type specified at the outset in accordance with the characterizing part of claim 1. For this purpose, the fold of one side wall projects beyond the fold of the other side wall. The edge region which has the protruding fold-over fold has a slot-shaped incision in the region of the grip loops. As a result, when used as a textile carrier bag, the edge area which has the protruding envelope fold itself can be used in a particularly simple manner as a rain-protecting closure flap. If the tote bag on the other hand to be used as a normal carrier bag for goods that are not to be protected, the edge area can be folded outwards onto the side wall. As a result, there is advantageously no need to separately form a closure flap to be provided on the carrying bag, which in particular leads to a simplification of the production process.
The inwardly folded edge regions of the carrier bag can be integrally connected to the respectively associated side wall along their inwardly open edge. As a result, the edge regions are not only cohesively connected to one another at the lateral boundary edges of the side walls, i.e. welded or glued. As a result, in particular the stability of the edge regions of the carrier bag is advantageously increased, in particular an unintentional tearing is made more difficult.
A weld seam or adhesive line is advantageously arranged essentially parallel to the envelope fold between the envelope fold and the incision within the edge region having the protruding envelope fold. This advantageously prevents inadvertent pulling apart of the edge region in the region of the incision in the edge region having the protruding fold-over fold when the grip loops are inserted into the incision. In addition, the edge area having the protruding envelope fold is additionally reinforced as a result. The ends of the grip loops can be welded continuously to the edge areas, that is to say that the correspondingly flat welding point connects the respective grip loop end to the two superimposed film areas of the corresponding edge area. This through-welding additionally fixes the foils lying on top of one another in the edge areas and at the same time increases the stability of the carrier bag.
